Porsche 991 Power Loss + ABS/TC Issues: Speed Sensor?

ABS/DSC system is not working

Loss of traction

Loss of engine power

ABS warning light

Hey everyone, my 2018 Porsche 991 is giving me trouble. The engine power drops significantly while driving, and both ABS and traction control stopped working. The warning lights are on the dash. I suspect it might be related to the speed sensor voltage supply, but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Would love to hear what your workshop found and how they fixed it. Thanks!

Hey there! I had a very similar issue with my 2016 Porsche Cayman (I have some experience working on cars, mostly basic maintenance). The symptoms were exactly the same, power loss and those warning lights lighting up my dash like a Christmas tree! Took it to my trusted workshop and it turned out to be a faulty wheel speed sensor. These sensors are integrated into the wheel bearing assembly on Porsches, so they had to replace the whole thing. Cost me around 170€ to fix. After that, everything went back to normal. But before jumping to conclusions, could you share which wheel is showing the issue (if your diagnostic tool shows this)? Also, are you getting any specific error codes? This would help narrow things down, as these symptoms can sometimes be caused by other issues in Porsches.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I have 18325 KM on the clock since my last service 4 months ago. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to scan for error codes yet, but I'll get that done tomorrow. The symptoms started suddenly during normal highway driving. I'm hoping it's just the speed sensor like in your case, seems like a fairly straightforward fix. Would be great if mine turns out to be that simple too!

Hey again! Yeah, those symptoms starting suddenly during highway driving definitely sound similar to what I experienced with my Cayman. Since you mentioned it started 4 months after service, I'd guess it's probably unrelated to any maintenance work. Just to share a bit more from my experience, when my issue happened, it also came out of nowhere on the highway. The thing with these speed sensors on Porsches is that they can fail pretty abruptly. The 170€ fix I mentioned earlier was actually just for the parts, totally forgot to mention the labor cost (my bad!). The whole job ended up being around 400€ including labor. Quick tip though, before you head to the shop tomorrow, check if you can spot any visible damage to the wheel speed sensor wiring. In my case, there was actually some minor damage to the wiring harness near the front right wheel, but I didn't notice it initially. They should be able to pinpoint the exact issue once they scan those codes. Keep us posted on what the diagnostic reveals! I'm curious to know if it's the same issue as mine. These Porsches are amazing machines but they can be a bit finicky with their sensors sometimes.

Thanks for all the extra details! That's really helpful info about the wiring, I'll definitely check that out before heading to the shop. And good to know about the total cost breakdown too. I'm actually feeling a bit more optimistic now since your experience sounds so similar to what I'm dealing with. I just took a quick look at the wheels, and interestingly, I noticed some signs of wear near the front right wheel wiring too. Maybe that's not a coincidence! I'll get those codes scanned first thing tomorrow and update the thread with what they find. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's great having other Porsche owners to bounce these issues off of.
