Porsche 991 AC Blower Problems: Tips from Owners

Blower does not work properly

Hey there, having an issue with my 2019 Porsche 991. The AC blower's acting up, sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. I suspect it might be the AC control panel, but not entirely sure. Has anyone dealt with something similar? What was the actual problem and how did your mechanic fix it? Any help would be great.

Hey! I had pretty much the same issue with my 2021 Porsche Cayman (I've got some experience working on cars, but mostly basic stuff). The symptoms were identical, super annoying when the blower would stop working out of nowhere. Took it to my regular workshop and turns out it was just a loose cable connection behind the control panel. The mechanic had to remove the panel, fix the connection, and test it thoroughly. Cost me around 210€ for the whole job, labor included. Been working perfectly since then. What's your car's mileage and have you noticed any pattern when the blower stops working? Like, does it happen more when it's hot or after the car's been sitting? Might help pinpoint if we're dealing with the same issue.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm at 94908 KM and just had the regular service done last month. Haven't really noticed a specific pattern with the blower, it's pretty unusual to be honest. It's good to know it might just be a loose connection though, definitely sounds less scary than having to replace the whole control panel. Did your mechanic mention how long the repair took? I'm trying to figure out if I can get it done during my lunch break or if I need to leave it at the shop for longer.

Hey again! Yeah, for my Cayman, the whole repair took about an hour and a half. The mechanic was pretty quick once he got into it, most of the time was actually spent on testing to make sure everything was working properly afterward. You should be able to get it sorted during a lunch break if your issue is similar to what I had. Just a heads up though, after I posted my last reply, I remembered something else. Before I took it to the shop, I tried checking the fuse box first (since it was unusual like yours), but that wasn't the problem. The loose connection in my case was actually causing some intermittent electrical contact, which is why it would work sometimes and not others. Since you're at 95K km (mine was around 68K when this happened), it might be worth having them check the blower motor too while they're in there. But honestly, given how similar your symptoms are to what I experienced, I'd put money on it being that same loose connection issue. My mechanic mentioned it's not uncommon in these models. Let me know what you find out, curious to know if it's the same problem!

Oh that's super helpful, especially about the repair time! An hour and a half definitely fits into my lunch break with some wiggling room. Smart thinking about checking the fuse box first too, I actually hadn't thought of that. I'll give that a quick look tonight before booking anything. Really appreciate the tip about getting the blower motor checked too. You're right, at my mileage, it's probably worth having them take a look while they're poking around in there anyway. Better safe than sorry, right? I've got a trusted Porsche specialist nearby, so I'll give them a call tomorrow and schedule it in. I'll definitely let you know what they find, would be pretty interesting if it turns out to be the same connection issue. Thanks again for all the detailed info. Really helped put my mind at ease about the whole thing!
