Porsche 991's Dead Nav & Audio: Fix Recommendations?

Audio system is not working

|

Navigationssystem is not working

Hey everyone, my 2013 Porsche 991 (31k km) is giving me headaches. Both the nav and audio systems are completely dead. I think it might be some sort of signal processing issue. Had some sketchy experiences with mechanics recently, so I'm a bit cautious about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar issues in their 991? Would love to hear about reliable mechanics who've fixed this kind of problem successfully. Thanks in advance!

I had a similar issue with my 2015 Porsche Cayman last summer. The entire PCM (Porsche Communication Management) system went dark, no nav, no audio, nothing. Initially thought it was just a fuse, but turned out the main control unit needed replacement. Took it to an authorized Porsche service center since these systems are pretty complex. The technician found that the PCM's main board had failed, which is apparently not uncommon in these models. It wasn't just a quick fix, they had to order a new unit and reprogram it to sync with the car's systems. Whatever you do, definitely get it checked at a place that specializes in Porsche electronics. These display issues often point to bigger problems with the car's communication systems, and you'll want someone who knows what they're doing. Mine took about a week to fix, but it's been working perfectly since then.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know. Would you mind telling me roughly how much you ended up paying for the PCM replacement? Also, have you noticed any other quirks with the system since they fixed it? I'm trying to get a sense of what I might be in for with my 991.

Hey again! Happy to update you on my Cayman's PCM situation. The whole repair, including the new display unit and reprogramming, came to 725€. That might sound steep, but considering it's Porsche-specific tech, I'd say it was worth every penny. The best part? Since getting it fixed at the Porsche center, everything's been running super smoothly. That annoying audio system signal error that was driving me crazy? Completely gone! The sound quality is actually better than ever, and the navigation system is working like a charm. Haven't had a single glitch since the repair. I know these kinds of issues can be stressful, especially with a 991, but once you get it sorted with the right people, you should be good to go. My advice would be to bite the bullet and go to an authorized dealer, they really know their stuff when it comes to these complex systems. Let me know if you need any other info about my experience with the repair. Always happy to help out a fellow Porsche owner!

Thanks so much for all the details! I bit the bullet and took your advice about going to an authorized Porsche dealer. Turns out my situation was pretty similar to yours. My PCM unit was totally fried and needed a complete replacement. The whole ordeal cost me about 800€, which was a bit more than I hoped for, but honestly, I'm just relieved it's fixed. The mechanic was super professional and walked me through everything they were doing. They even found and fixed a small wiring issue that could've caused problems down the line. Got my car back yesterday, and it's like having a brand new system! The nav is crystal clear, and the audio sounds amazing. No more mystery blackouts or weird glitches. Should've just gone to the dealer in the first place instead of stressing about it. Really appreciate everyone's help here. Sometimes paying a bit more for proper service is totally worth it!
