Polo Fuel Flap & Lock Actuator Failure Fix Needed

My Polo diesel from 2018 (50570km) has some electrical problems that started recently. The fuel filler flap wont unlock anymore and theres an error code stored. The lock actuator seems to be the issue since some other vehicle functions stopped working too. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Looking for feedback on repair costs and experiences with this specific problem before heading to a mechanic.

Had similar problems with my 2015 VW Golf TDI. The fuel filler flap issue started exactly the same way, and the electrical fault turned out to be more than just the flap itself. The electric actuator for the release mechanism was failing intermittently, which also affected other electronic systems. The cable release was completely stuck, and the diagnostic showed multiple error codes. After inspection, it was determined the entire release button assembly needed replacement along with some wiring repairs. The repair required removing door panels and some interior trim to access the complete mechanism. This was not a quick fix since the electrical connections needed proper diagnostic testing to prevent future issues. The repair took almost a full day at the shop. This is typically a serious problem that should be addressed promptly since it can affect other electrical systems and potentially leave you unable to refuel. The faulty actuator can also cause increased resistance in the circuit, potentially damaging other components if left unrepaired. Based on your description, it sounds like youre experiencing the exact same symptoms I had. Would recommend getting it checked soon before it affects more systems.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Golf. Your situation does sound identical to mine, especially with the lock actuator problems and error codes. The key fob and release button issues are really starting to worry me now. Can you remember roughly how much the full repair cost you? Also curious if youve had any electrical fault issues since getting it fixed? Just trying to get an idea of what Im looking at cost wise and if its usually a permanent fix.

Had the repair done last month and glad to report everything is working perfectly now. The fuel door opens smoothly every time I press the release button, and no electrical fault codes have appeared since. The total repair came to 210€ for replacing the defective linkage and lock actuator system. The key fob functions are all back to normal too. Definitely worth getting it fixed, the technician mentioned that leaving these electrical issues unaddressed can lead to more expensive problems down the line. Since the repair, all the connected systems are functioning as they should. The fuel filler flap releases reliably, and there have been zero issues with the electrical systems. It seems to be a permanent fix based on my experience so far.

I finally got the problem fixed last week. After reading about your similar experience, I took my Polo to a certified mechanic. The diagnostic confirmed what I suspected, the lock actuator was indeed faulty and causing the fuel door issues. The repair took about 6 hours total. They had to replace the entire electric actuator assembly and some connecting wires that had worn out. The total bill came to 280€, slightly more than expected but worth every cent since they found and fixed some additional wiring issues that could have caused problems later. The fuel flap now opens perfectly with both the interior release button and key fob. All other electrical functions are back to normal too. Really glad I got it sorted before it affected more systems. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it helped me understand what I was dealing with and got me to take action sooner rather than later.
