Peugeot 307 Diesel 2005: Symptoms and experiences with irregular running and exhaust smoke

Shaking while idling

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Loud hissing on acceleration

Jerking on acceleration

Stalling while idling

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

Whistling noise

Hey guys! I have a problem with my 2005 Peugeot 307 Diesel, which has already done 162596 KM. When I accelerate, black smoke comes out of the exhaust, the check engine light is on and the engine power is down. The engine runs unevenly and the car jerks. There is also a loud hissing noise when accelerating and the car dies when idling. It also vibrates when idling and I hear a whistling noise. I have the feeling that the malfunction could be coming from the boost pressure regulator. Have any of you ever had similar symptoms? What did your mechanic say about it and how was your experience with the repair? My last experience with the mechanic was not the best. I would love to hear your opinions and advice. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I recently had a similar problem with my 2007 Peugeot 407 Diesel. The boost pressure regulator on mine was also electrically defective. The symptoms were almost identical to yours, black smoke, indicator light, bumpy engine and these hissing noises when accelerating. My mechanic then replaced the boost pressure regulator and that fixed everything. I would say it was a more serious matter, but fortunately not a total loss. A defective boost pressure controller can massively impair engine performance and even lead to engine damage if it is not fixed promptly. The replacement was then done quite quickly and afterwards my car ran like clockwork again. So, I would definitely recommend having it checked by a specialist. I hope you get it sorted quickly. Good luck with that!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! Your experience sounds pretty much identical to what I'm going through at the moment. Good to know that replacing the boost pressure actuator solved the problem for you. I will definitely get a professional on it. Can you remember how much it cost? And has everything gone smoothly since the repair or have there been any other problems? Many thanks in advance!

Hey, of course I still remember the cost. The fun cost me €1520. Not really a bargain, but at least it's better than a total loss, isn't it? And since the repair, my Peugeot has been running like a champ again. This malfunction of the boost pressure regulator is a case for the mechanic, but once it's fixed, your car should work properly again. So cheer up and all the best for the repair!

Many thanks for the information. A bit expensive, but if it makes the car fit again, then it's worth it. I'm reassured to hear that everything has been running smoothly since the repair. I will see a mechanic as soon as possible and have him look at it. Thanks again for your time and helpful words!
