Peugeot 3008 Diesel 2015: Problems with engine start and power loss

Check engine light on

Hey guys! I have a small problem with my Peugeot 3008 Diesel, built in 2015. Check engine light is on, it has hardly any power and the engine just won't start. I was thinking that maybe a pressure fluctuation on one cylinder could be the cause, but I'm not sure. Have any of you had the same problem and how did you solve it? What was your experience at the workshop? I would be very grateful for any progress reports and tips.

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2013 Peugeot 308 diesel, I wouldn't call myself a car specialist but have a bit of experience due to various issues that have cropped up over time. It may well be due to a pressure fluctuation. In my case, it was a subsequent error from other fault memory entries. I took my car to my trusted garage and they were able to read out the error and rectify it. The great thing was that it didn't cost me a penny! But could you please give me more details about your car? Then maybe I could help you find out more about it. For example, the mileage and whether you've had any repairs in the past.

Hey, thanks for your answer! Well, my car has already done 191616 km and it had its last service about a year ago. So far I haven't had any major repairs, just replaced the normal wear parts. Hope that helps!

Hey, thanks for the info! Well, at this mileage, it may well be that the engine is slowly reaching its limits. Of course, only your mechanic can make an exact diagnosis, but I would actually suspect that the pressure fluctuations are at least part of the problem. It was similar with my 308, which also has quite a few kilometers on the clock. I also had a pressure fluctuation on one cylinder back then. If this is also the case with you, a small service could already provide a remedy. However, depending on the exact nature of the problem, it may also be necessary to work on the affected cylinder or even replace it. For now, I would advise you to have your car read out. Then you will know more clearly where the problem lies. Only then would I start with repairs. In any case, the good news is that this is by no means a typical Peugeot problem. Things like this can happen to any car, especially with high mileage. I hope this helps you a bit and I wish you good luck in finding a solution. Give us an update when you know what's going on!

Hey, thanks for your advice! I also think I should have the car read out first. Maybe it really is just the pressure fluctuations. I'm sorry you've had this problem too, but it reassures me that it's not necessarily a Peugeot-specific problem. I'll get my mechanic on it and maybe he can fix it without us having to replace the cylinder. I'll keep you up to date. Thanks again for your help!

Today took the starter generator of the 2015 PEUGEOT 3008 diesel out from under, I had the car read out after several fault reports, see it says Valeo on it, is this installed by Peugeot? A replacement starter generator would cost 1350 euros, a lot of money, did a quick search on the internet, Valeo sells these for 7a 800 euros, is this good quality, does anyone have experience with this?

Yes, Valeo is a reputable manufacturer of automotive parts, including starter generators. They are often used by car manufacturers, including Peugeot. The price difference you're seeing could be due to the markup from the dealership or mechanic. If you're confident in your ability to replace the part yourself, purchasing it directly could save you some money. However, keep in mind that doing so may void any warranties if the installation is done incorrectly. Do you have any further questions or need more guidance?
