Peugeot 208 from 2011: Black smoke, jerky movements and loss of power

Hey guys, my 2011 Peugeot 208 (petrol engine, 140,521 km run) is currently causing me a lot of stress. During acceleration, it blows black smoke out of the exhaust and also really ticks with jerky movements. There is also a loss of power and the engine runs unevenly. Without accelerating, it almost stalls and vibrates like crazy. On the highway, it hisses like a defective kettle and sometimes it sounds like it's whistling. The check engine light is permanently on. I think it has something to do with the boost pressure system. Has anyone had similar experiences and can perhaps give me a good tip before I have to go back to the garage? Last time there was really annoying. Many thanks in advance!

Hey, I know the problem. My old 2014 Peugeot 508 had exactly the same symptoms. Black smoke, jerky movements, almost stalled when stationary and these strange noises. Don't worry, it really is something that can be fixed. In my case it was mechanical damage to the turbocharger. The turbocharger has a very important role in the engine, it makes sure that enough air gets into the cylinders. If it's broken, it can really put a lot of strain on the engine. The scary thing is, if it's not fixed, it can lead to major engine damage. So, definitely not something to take lightly. Definitely go to the garage and get it checked out. It took time, but in the end my car ran like new again. Good luck to you!

Hey, thank you for your tip. It's reassuring to know that it could be a repairable problem. A defect in the turbocharger sounds very plausible. The last thing I want is major engine damage. So yes, I also think a trip to the garage is inevitable. Could you possibly tell me how much it cost you? So the repair of the turbocharger? And did you have similar problems afterwards, or did everything run like clockwork? Thanks in advance for your reply!

Hey, sure, I can definitely help you with that. In my case, the cost of repairing the mechanical damage to the turbocharger was €1070. A hefty price, but my car ran like a kitten again afterwards. And as for your second question, I can reassure you. Since the repair in the workshop, the problem with the malfunction in the boost pressure system has been resolved. There were no more similar problems and everything really ran like clockwork. So don't worry, it's good that you're taking the problem seriously and want to have it repaired. I wish you the best of luck and hopefully your Peugeot will run smoothly again afterwards! See you then!

Hey, thanks for the thorough information! Although the cost of the repair is a bit high, it's reassuring to hear that your car ran perfectly again afterwards. I'm taking your advice very seriously and will definitely tackle the problem. My little Peugeot and I have been through so much together. I can hardly wait to see it back in top form. No amount is too high for that! Thanks again for your help and I wish you a safe journey at all times! See you then!
