Peugeot 208 (2015) does not start: Flashing warning light and possible water sensor malfunction

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Engine shuts off by itself

Car won't start

Hi guys, I have a few problems with my 2015 Peugeot 208 with a gasoline engine and a mileage of 146,776 KM. It won't start, the engine stalls by itself and a warning light in the speedometer is constantly flashing. In my experience, it could be a malfunction of the water sensor, right? Have any of you experienced anything like this? I had my last bad experience with the mechanic and am a bit worried. I would be very happy if you could share your experiences or tips. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2012 Peugeot 208. The symptoms were identical, the engine just wouldn't start and the warning light was constantly flashing. The fault was with the cable connection to the sensor. It was somewhat serious because without the correct sensor information, the engine's ECU can't work properly. I ended up taking it to the garage where they worked on the cable connection to the sensor. The problem was solved after they fixed the faulty cable connection to the sensor. Don't get too stressed, a good mechanic should be able to fix it without any problems. Hope this helps you!

Hello, thank you very much for the helpful information! Your situation sounds very similar to my difficulties, so it could be the same problem. Do you happen to remember how much the repair cost at the garage? I need to know what I should be prepared for financially. And have you had any other problems with the sensor since then or has everything been fine again? Thank you!

Hello, I'm glad I could help! Repairing the cable connection to the sensor cost me a total of €365. It wasn't exactly cheap, but it fixed the problem and I haven't had any more problems since. After the visit to the workshop, the issue with the malfunctioning water sensor was completely resolved. But don't worry - if you have a good mechanic, it shouldn't be another problem. Best regards!

Hi, that sounds like a lot of money, but I'm glad to know that it completely fixed the problem and you haven't had any further trouble since. I will go to a mechanic and have a close look at the cable connection to the sensor. Your reply has helped me a lot, I feel better prepared now. Thanks again for your support! Best regards!

Hello, I own a 208 HDi. From 2020. Yesterday while driving the engine light and esp remained on, a loss of power and the fan on high speed. The box tells me it's the speed sensor(s).

It sounds like you might be dealing with a faulty speed sensor. This can cause the engine light to come on, loss of power, and the fan to run at high speed. I would recommend starting with a check of the speed sensor(s). If they are faulty, they will need to be replaced. Please remember that this is a safety-relevant issue, so it's recommended to let a mechanic check the issue. After you've done this, could you please update us on the progress? Do you have any further questions?
