Peugeot 2008 with engine problems: Experiences and tips wanted

Longer cold start time

Unsteady engine

Engine shuts off by itself

Car won't start

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Hi guys, I need your help. My 2014 Peugeot 2008 (petrol engine with approx. 51965 KM mileage) is currently experiencing a few problems. The indicator light is permanently on, the engine stalls without warning, has a longer cold start time, loses power, runs unsteadily and sometimes won't start at all. I think it may have something to do with the crankshaft sensor. Have you ever had the same problem and what was your experience with the mechanic? I'm counting on your tips, because after my last repair experience I was anything but satisfied. Thanks in advance!

Hello, I can understand this very well. I once had the same problem with my 2011 Peugeot 207 - constantly illuminated indicator light, irregular engine performance and difficulty starting. It turned out that the crankshaft sensor was defective. To be precise, the wiring harness/plug of the crankshaft sensor was broken. The mechanic had to remove the old sensor and wiring and replace the whole thing. This was a serious problem, not because of the failure of the sensor itself, but because of the location of the part under the hood and the difficulty in getting to it. But once that was done, the car ran like clockwork again. So, it could well be the same problem with your 2008 Peugeot. Had no warning or fault codes at the time either, just the behavior you describe. A proper mechanic should be able to identify and solve it though. Good luck with it!

Hey, thanks for your message. That's a bit of a relief. Do you have any idea what you had to pay for the repair back then and whether anything has come up again since then? It would be really great if you knew.

Sure, no problem, I'm happy to help! If I remember correctly, the repair cost me around €170 at the time. A lot of money, but fortunately the crankshaft sensor hasn't malfunctioned again since then. So the mechanic seems to have done a pretty good job back then. It's always a good feeling when you realize that a repair is really bearing fruit, isn't it? So, keep your fingers crossed that it goes just as well for you as it did for me back then!

Great, that really helps me. 170 is quite a lot of money, but if it helps, then it's probably worth it. Thanks again for your help! I'll discuss it with the mechanic and hope that my Peugeot has the same problem and that it will be fixed. Have a good day and I'll let you know how it goes!
