Performance problems on Audi A5 3.0 TDI

Longer cold start time

Poor fuel economy

Engine hard to start

Jerking on acceleration

Shaking while idling

Hello everyone, I'm experiencing several problems with my Audi A5 3.0 TDI. The car has jerks when accelerating from cold, a longer cold start time, shakes at idle, and low fuel consumption. What's more, the FAP light comes on from time to time, but disappears after more dynamic driving. I noticed an error code P010100 linked to the air flow meter. I think it could be due to the air flow meter or the EGR valve, but before making any replacements, I'd like to have your opinions and advice. Thanks in advance for your help!

Start by checking the air filter for any blockages or dirt, as a clogged air filter can affect the air flow meter readings and cause similar symptoms. If the air filter is clean, inspect the wiring and connections to the air flow meter for any signs of damage or corrosion. Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions!

Thank you for your reply. I've just checked all the components and everything is in order. There is a sport air filter in the original air box, could this affect the flow meter?

Yes, a sport air filter can sometimes affect the readings of the air flow meter, especially if it's not properly oiled or maintained. Try cleaning and re-oiling the filter according to the manufacturer's instructions, or temporarily replace it with a standard air filter to see if the issue persists. Let me know if this makes any difference or if you have more questions!

I've put back an original air filter, but it doesn't change my problem at all. Is it possible that the PAP is completely blocked?

It's possible that the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is becoming clogged, especially if the FAP light comes on frequently. Try performing a forced regeneration by driving at higher speeds for a sustained period, as this can help clear the DPF. If the problem persists, it might be necessary to have a mechanic inspect the DPF for a more thorough cleaning or replacement. Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions!
