Thanks so much for sharing that, it's really helpful! I've got a similar situation with my Panamera actually. My mechanic also mentioned possible bearing issues when they looked at it last week. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? And has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Just trying to get an idea of what I might be in for. Cheers!
Hey again! Just wanted to update you on my Cayenne situation. After seeing my Porsche specialist, it turned out I was lucky, the Engine oil temperature sensor was indeed faulty as initially suspected, and they fixed that right away. They also topped up the coolant which was running low (that was a €52.50 bill, not too bad really!). Since getting those fixes, my Cayenne's been running like a dream, no more knocking sounds or any other issues. Makes me glad I got it checked out when I did! Sounds like your situation might be a bit different though, especially if they're suspecting bearing problems. That could potentially be more serious than what I dealt with. If your mechanic is talking bearings, you might want to brace yourself for a bigger bill than what I had. These Porsche engines are fantastic but when they need proper work, it can get pretty pricey. But hey, better to sort it now than risk bigger problems down the line, right? Keep us posted on how it goes with your Panamera!
Thanks for the follow-up! Just got back from the mechanic today, and you won't believe what happened. After getting a second opinion from a certified Porsche specialist, it turned out to be a damaged bearing and a cracked oil pump. The repair cost me around €4,500, ouch! But honestly, I'm just glad I caught it before it turned into a complete engine failure. The specialist was super professional and walked me through everything. They showed me the worn parts and explained how the original oil temp sensor diagnosis missed the real problem. The repair took about four days, but my Panamera's running smooth as silk now, no more knocking sounds or oil issues. Really appreciate everyone's input here, especially about getting that second opinion. It definitely saved me from what could've been a much bigger headache (and bill!) down the road. Will definitely stick with this specialist for future maintenance. Thanks again for all the help!
Hey there, Those symptoms sound really familiar to what I experienced with my 2017 Porsche Cayenne Diesel last year at 95k km. Had similar metallic debris in the oil and engine knocking. Initially thought it was just a sensor issue too, but turned out to be more serious. Took it to my trusted Porsche specialist, and they found that the coolant level was critically low, causing overheating and engine bearing damage. The bearings were wearing down, which explained the metal in the oil. They had to do a partial engine rebuild to fix it properly. Don't want to alarm you, but with those symptoms, I'd strongly suggest getting a second opinion from a certified Porsche mechanic ASAP. Metal in oil combined with knocking isn't something you want to ignore, it can lead to complete engine failure if left unchecked. Better safe than sorry with these engines, they're solid but need proper diagnosis when things go wrong. Hope this helps.
