Overheating problems and problems with the coolant pump in the Opel Captiva (2006, petrol engine)

Overheating

Check engine light on

Hey guys, I have problems with my Opel Captiva (built in 2006, gasoline engine). It is constantly overheating and the check engine light is on. I suspect that the electric coolant pump is not working properly. Has anyone had similar experiences and can give tips on how to solve the problem? Would be particularly interested to know how it was fixed at the garage. Many thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2008 Opel Antara. I only have a little experience with cars, but I hope I can help. In my case the cable on the pump/control unit was faulty. I took my car to a local garage and they recognized the problem immediately. The repair cost €95 and after that everything ran like clockwork. To be able to help you more precisely, it would be helpful to get some more information. Did the fault occur after a certain action? Does your car display certain symptoms? Any error codes? And how long have you had the problem? Hope this helps you!

Hi, thanks for your reply. Your experience is definitely helpful. In fact, my car is showing error code P2610, which indicates a problem with the engine control unit. The problem occurred after I recently went on a long drive. Other than that, no particular symptoms, everything is actually running as normal, except for the overheating of course. My last service was at 72624 km, so not too long ago. Maybe that's important to know.

Hi back, thanks for the additional information. So you have error code P2610, which makes the situation a bit clearer. The code indicates a problem with the coolant system, so you could be right with your original assumption. I had a similar problem with my Antara after a long drive. It could be that the pump was overloaded during the journey and is no longer working properly. It hasn't been that long since your last service, so I don't think there's a general problem with your car. It could just be an isolated incident. You should visit a garage immediately. With a bit of luck, it could just be a minor repair. It was only around €95 for me, so I hope it will be that cheap for you too. Keep us posted and hope your car runs smoothly again soon! Have a safe journey!

Hi again, your quick response and helpful tips are really great. I had also thought that it could have been caused by the long drive. Your tip confirms that. I've made an appointment with the garage today and will have them look at your tip about the cable. I hope it will be similarly favorable for me. As soon as I know more, I'll be happy to share it with you here! Thank you and have a safe journey!
