Overheating problem with the Renault Captur 2015: tips and exchange of experience about cooling air flap system errors

Overheating

Hi guys, I've recently had a problem with my 2015 Renault Captur with a petrol engine. It keeps overheating without a clear cause. I suspect that the cooling air flap system is going crazy. Have any of you ever had similar problems and can give me a tip on what I should do? I would like to know how your garage solved the problem and what your experiences were. Thank you very much!

Hey, I have some experience with cars and had a similar problem with my 2013 Renault Megane. It turned out that the wiring harness of the radiator shutter was defective/rubbed up behind the bumper. The repair at my garage cost me 27 euros. It could be the same with your Captur. If you need more details, please share more about the symptoms and behavior of your car. Hope that helps!

Many thanks for the quick reply! I didn't think that the wiring harness could be a problem. My Captur now has about 61949 km on the clock and the last service was about 6 months ago. The heat problem usually occurs when I'm on the highway and the outside temperatures are high. The car shows an overheating warning and the heater runs at full load even though I haven't turned it on. Would be very grateful if you could give me any more tips. Also is this something I could fix myself? Or is it better if I take the car to the garage?

Moinmoin, that sounds like the same problem I had with my Megane. Especially when you say that the heater is running at full load, that's a typical sign of a malfunction in the cooling air flap system. And if the wiring harness of the radiator shutter is broken, then the ECU is getting distorted signals or no signals at all and switches the heater to full load to cool the engine. I wouldn't repair it yourself unless you're a professional. It's a pretty tricky job and if something goes wrong, the engine can be seriously damaged. So take it to the workshop before it gets any worse. Stay cool and don't let the heat get to you!

Great, thanks for the detailed explanation! I'm no slouch with my hands, but I'd rather let the professionals handle such a specialized task. So I will visit my garage and tell them exactly what I suspect. These details should help them pinpoint the problem. Really great support from you here, I'm very grateful for it! I'll be sweating it out to get a workshop appointment. Stay healthy and happy!
