Overheating Issue in 2014 Dacia Duster: Possible Cooling Air Flap System Problem?

Overheating

Hey! I'm having a bit of a head-scratcher with my 2014 Dacia Duster, Gasoline engine, that's been acting up recently. One key issue I've noticed is overheating. I'm beginning to suspect that it's something to do with the cooling air flap system. Has anyone ever encountered something similar or can confirm my suspicion? If so, how did your mechanic resolve the issue? Looking forward to hearing about your experiences and any advice you might have. Thanks a bunch!

Hey there. I had a similar issue with my 2012 Dacia Logan MCV, Petrol engine. Just for context, I'd call myself a car owner with some experience - not a professional greasemonkey but know my way around the basics. A while back, the car was overheating much like yours, and it turned out to be an issue with the Radiator Shutter Wiring Harness, sitting behind the bumper. It was worn out and needed replacing. I had my local workshop deal with it, cost me around 270 Euro thereabouts. Not the funniest of situations, I tell ya. But we could probably narrow it down better if you could indulge us a bit; exact model, mileage run, any recent service history? That'd help us get a clearer picture. Looking forward to helping you out further.

Hey! Appreciate the help. My Duster's run 140591 KM already, and I last serviced it a month back. Noted on the Radiator Shutter Wiring Harness issue. I'll take a look at that! Cheers!

Hey there! Great, those additional details help. With 140,591 KM on the clock, parts will start to show some wear and tear. That's not to say it's definitely the radiator shutter wiring harness; it could be the cooling air flap system like your initial thought. With that mileage, other parts could play a part in the overheating too. Thermostat, water pump, coolant hoses – might all need a check. If the overheating is inconsistent or 'unusual', it's likely a thermostat issue; it's a pain to isolate though because it doesn't always show up on diagnostic checks. And a heads-up: for the radiator wiring, it's a bit of a job to get to it behind the bumper, so get ready for a decent labour cost if that's the issue. Anyhow, keep us informed with any updates. Nest when the beast is on the mend! Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the great tips and insights. Definitely will check the thermostat, water pump, and coolant hoses. As for the radiator wiring, I guess I'll brace myself then, haha. I'll keep you posted once everything's sorted out, or if I discover anything else interesting. Here's to hoping the problem gets solved soon! Cheers!
