Overheating Issue in '06 Nissan Terrano with High Mileage: Possible PTC Heater Malfunction

Overheating

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Coolant level low

Hey folks, I'm in a bit of a bind with my ‘06 Nissan Terrano, diesel engine, clocking in around 138,168 kms. Recently she seems to be running hot way too often (overheating, low coolant) and hitting me with a warning light. So, I'm thinking the PTC heater's messing up. Had a pretty crap experience at the mechanics last time, so I wanted to get your wisdom before I head in again. Anyone dealt with this issue before or have a similar story? Appreciate anything you got, cheers!

Hey, Had a similar bout with my '09 Nissan Patrol, diesel as well. Been through the ringer with her, right? Anyways, turns out my Electric auxiliary heater was dodgy, same symptoms, overheating and the blinking warning light. This could very well be what's going on with your Terrano. Managed to get it sorted at my last garage trip, wasn't too much of a headache thankfully. They found that the PTC unit wasn't effectively heating up the coolant due to some electrical issue. Everything's technical, innit? So, they had to replace the whole unit. Definitely do recommend that you get her checked out soon. While it's not engine-level serious, you don't want to let it slide 'cause regular overheating can lead to bigger problems down the line. Good luck with the fix and keep us posted!

Hey there, Quite a rumble with the old girl, eh? Seems like I've been down a similar road with my '07 Terrano before. It sounds a lot like an issue with the PTC heater. Quite a stubborn bugger when not working right. Now you've got me scratchin' my head trying to recall what I shelled out to fix it. Do you remember what you dropped on your repairs, ? Also, have you seen any other issues popping up since? Fingers crossed, none for me so far! Keep us updated on what happens, and here's hoping it's an easy fix! Cheers!

Hey there, Haha, yeah, my old Nissan did give me a bit of a run for my money, didn’t she? As for the cost, it wasn’t too bad, all things considered. I dropped about 350 Euro at the garage to sort out the defective Electric auxiliary heater. Considering how these issues can get out of hand and lead to more serious problems, I reckon that was a pretty fair price. And as for any more issues popping up, I’ve got to say, touch wood, she’s been running smooth as silk since the fix! The PTC heater's been doing its job perfectly, no more overheating or warning lights. So all in all, I’d say it was a good investment to get that PTC sorted when I did. Keep us in the loop with your '06 Terrano, and let's hope it's nothing too serious. Cheers!

Hey guys, Thanks for sharing your experiences. Sounds exactly the same as what I'm seeing with my '06 Terrano. Cranky old girl! Based on what you both described, it definitely seems to be the PTC heater causing the problem. It's good to hear that the costs didn't break the bank. I was fearing a hefty bill! Hearty cheers for the price idea, it gives me a ballpark figure to prepare for. Also glad to know that I should be on a smooth ride once this gets sorted out. Appreciate the advice and I'm definitely getting it checked as soon as possible. Will keep you guys posted once I get this sorted. Thanks again, lads! Cheers!
