Overheating indicator and check engine light problems with Renault Arkana

Check engine light on

Hello, I have a problem with my Renault Arkana. Recently, the red light on the dashboard lit up, indicating that the engine is overheating. In addition, the check engine light has come on. The car was recently serviced for a full paint job and is still under warranty. What should I do in this situation? Thanks in advance for your help.

Firstly, don't ignore these warning lights as they indicate serious issues. Start by checking the coolant level in your car. If it's low, fill it up to the recommended level. If the problem persists, it could be a faulty thermostat, a leak in the cooling system, or a problem with the water pump. Since your car is still under warranty, I would recommend taking it to the dealership or a certified mechanic as soon as possible to avoid any potential damage to the engine. Please keep us updated on the situation. Do you have any other questions?

Thank you for the prompt and quick reply, I would like to let you know that I checked the coolant level and it was about 1mm below the max level of the container which makes me understand that there would be no loss in the cooling system. Then the warning light was red which indicates , to my basic knowledge, that there is a serious problem and should not be treated as information or warning, but there is another message - "Temperature shutdown!" Is there any need for temporary shutdown on such a message - the red light? What would be the reasons for an overheating of the engine when the coolant is at max level in the system?

Yes, a red warning light typically indicates a serious issue that needs immediate attention. The "Temperature shutdown!" message is likely advising you to stop driving to prevent further damage due to overheating. Even with the coolant at max level, overheating can occur due to several reasons. It could be a faulty thermostat not allowing coolant to circulate, a blocked radiator, a failing water pump, or even a problem with the engine control unit. Given the severity of the warning, I strongly recommend not driving the car and getting it towed to a certified mechanic or your dealership, especially since it's under warranty. This is a safety-relevant issue and should be checked by a professional. Please keep us updated on the progress. Do you have any other questions?

On my Arkana, the TEMPORARY STOP ENGINE COOLING light came on during the Turin-Naples trip. The first time after 3 hours of travel to Massa (light on for 40 seconds and then gone a few seconds before I stopped) I made a stop for about 30 min and the light did not reappear. I made a 2-hour drive and a stop and drove off again. At the height of Roma Sud the light came on again, I was not on the highway and stopped in the parking lot of a suoermarket. This time, however, the light was on for about 1 min and while parking I noticed that the car was not accelerating, I could hardly stop. I turned the car back on after 40 min and left again going to take the highway and with 80-90 km/h I drove the last 170 km and arrived home without the light coming on again. I took p car to renault workshop and they told me that they did not detect any abnormality from diagnosis. Should I trust them ?

Hi Luigi89, hi CarlyMechanic, Back with an update, My Arkana was transported to the first Renaul servis in the area where it was when the breakdown , if I can call it that. Good so far, it was put on the tester and I was surprised that it didn't indicate anything on the diagnostic. Absolutely nothing! They checked everything they could and did the diagnostic twice. Again NOTHING...They resoftat anyway and I left the service with some doubts. The problem is that I ran another 200 km and the breakdown reappeared. De aceasta data la cateva secunde dupa dupa ce bordul a afisat meajul rosu masina s-a oprit brusc. Again the towing called and communicated with the service by phone. The mechanic in the callcenter suggested us to stop the car, wait for 15 minutes, maybe even longer, and drive to the first gas station where we could try a test with a gasoline with the highest octane additive. We stayed in touch with him and realized the advice exactly. Our advantage was that within 12 kilometers we found a gas station. So we took additive gasoline, took a break for about 30 minutes. We then started to drive 250 km this time without any problem or without the situation described by the breakdown. I don't understand anything, honestly. This situation is "to be continued!" and after the holidays I'll go to Renaul for a new diagnosis. I wish you happy holidays and I will definitely come back after the new Renaul service trip which will probably be in 2025.

Hi lyztar, it's indeed a puzzling situation. Intermittent issues like this can be challenging to diagnose. The fact that the problem didn't reoccur after using a higher octane fuel could suggest that the issue might be related to the fuel system or engine management. However, it's hard to say for sure without a proper diagnosis. When you take your Arkana back to the Renault service center, you might want to suggest them to check the fuel system and the engine control unit. Also, make sure they are aware of the exact circumstances when the issue occurs (long drives, specific speeds, etc.). Please keep us updated on the progress after your next service trip. Do you have any other questions or concerns? Happy holidays!
