Overheating in Citroen DS3: electric fan defective?

Overheating

Air conditioning blows warm air

Hey guys, I'm really worried about my 2016 Citroen DS3 (diesel, 148971 KM on the clock). Recently, the air conditioning was just emitting warm air and the thing was overheating. I suspect that perhaps the electric fan or its control system is acting up. Unfortunately, I didn't have such a great experience the last time I visited the mechanic... Have any of you ever experienced something similar and can give me a tip? How did you deal with something like this at the mechanic? I'm really looking forward to any experience reports! Thanks in advance!

Hi mate, I can understand your concerns. I had a similar experience with my 2013 Citroen C4 Picasso. The electric fan "control unit" was actually defective. This defect led to overheating problems, just like with your DS3. The air conditioning couldn't work properly and there were also problems with overheating. Of course, this is quite an annoying situation. But don't worry, it's solvable. When I visited the workshop, they completely replaced the problematic unit. The mechanic said that this is a common solution for such cases. Sure, it's a serious issue that requires attention, but it's not the end of the world. Your car should run perfectly again after the repair. Take courage, you can do it! Hope this helps you!

Hi, thanks for your prompt reply! Your experience is really reassuring to hear. Do you happen to remember what you paid for the repair? Was there any additional work involved or did everything run smoothly again afterwards? I would be delighted to hear your feedback!

Hey, no problem, I'm happy to help! So, the repair of my electric fan cost €480. That included replacing the control unit. It was quite a lot of money, but since then everything has been running smoothly again. I didn't have to do anything else afterwards. Get it fixed and then your Citroen will be fit again! Hope I was able to help you. Good luck, buddy!

Great, thank you very much for this information! 480 € is a lot of money, but if it works normally again, it's worth it. It was really a great help to hear your experience! I'm much more reassured now. I'll make sure I get to the workshop as soon as possible. Thanks again and have a nice day!
