Overheating and Engine Light Issues in 2019 Kia Telluride - Seeking Advice

Check engine light on

|

Overheating

Hey there fellow car enthusiasts, I got a 2019 Kia Telluride, gas-guzzler, with a decent 122,770 KM clocked. Recently, been facing a couple of pesky issues - it's overheating and the check engine light's turned on. I'm leaning towards a faulty coolant thermostat. Had a sour experience with my mechanic last time, so before heading there again, thought of getting some advice or experiences here. Has anybody been through similar problems? How was your experience with the mechanics? Love to hear your thoughts. Thanks a lot, guys!

Hey there! Sounds a bit like a problem I had with my 2016 Kia Sportage not too long ago. Was dealing with an overheating issue as well, with the engine light on. Took it to my usual guy, and initially, we both thought it might be the thermostat too. But as it turned out, the real troublemaker was Damage to the wiring harness. Apparently, wires were chaffing against some metal parts, got damaged, and caused electrical faults that messed up the thermostat readings. My garage guy had to replace the whole wiring harness to fix the problem. So, it was a bit of a serious issue but once the harness was replaced, no more overheating or engine light issues. I'd suggest getting your mechanic to give your Telluride's wiring harness a thorough look before settling on the thermostat. Hope this helps, and you get your ride sorted out soon!

Hey there! Wow, had no idea the wiring harness could be the culprit, thanks for sharing your experience! Definitely made me reconsider jumping to the thermostat conclusion - gonna ask my mechanic to double-check the wiring tomorrow. By the way, if you don't mind me asking, how much of a dent did the harness replacement put on your wallet? And since the fix, has any other issue related to this popped up or has it been smooth sailing? Looking forward to your reply, really appreciate the help!

Hey! Glad I could provide some insight! Truth be told, the harness mess did indeed hit my pocket a little, it cost me about 170.00 € to get it all sorted. I thought it might pinch a bit but then, better safe than sorry, right? Since the mechanic did his thing on the harness, there hasn’t been any similar issues cropping up. Plus, the coolant thermostat malfunction got sorted out too. It's been smooth driving since then, the car's been running like a charm, really! Fingers crossed it holds out and your ride gets back to purring soon too!

Hey champ! You're absolutely right, better to pay up and get it fixed properly. Thanks for sharing the costs, was expecting it to be around that range, so now I won’t have a heart attack when my mechanic whispers the figure to me! Relieved to know that there were no recurring issues, gives me hope that my ride will be back to its smooth self soon. Can't wait to drive without that annoying engine light flashing out of the corner of my eye! Thanks again for all the advice and insight. You're a legend! Cheers!
