Overheating and check engine light on Opel Mokka - experience and tips wanted

Overheating

Check engine light on

Hello everyone, I need your help. My Opel Mokka petrol engine (built in 2017) with approx. 158312 km on the odometer keeps overheating and the engine control light is constantly on. I suspect that it could be a malfunction of the auxiliary coolant pump. Have any of you ever had a problem like this? What was your experience with the workshop? I'm a bit worried after quite a washout on my last visit to the mechanic. I would really appreciate your feedback and tips! Thanks in advance, username

Hello username, Something similar happened to me once with my Opel Astra (built in 2014). It was actually a defective cable connection, just as you suspect. The faulty cable connection led to problems with the auxiliary coolant pump, which caused the engine to overheat and the check engine light to come on. It wasn't fun, I'm telling you. Cost me a lot of nerves. But the last time I was at the garage, they found the fault during a thorough check and replaced the faulty cable connection. It was quite a relief when I had solved the problem. But although it was an annoying situation, fortunately it wasn't a catastrophic problem for the car. I hope this helps you a little. Hi Dein Name, so you've had the same problem as me, which is reassuring to know that it's not just me. It sounds like a real odyssey with your Astra. I'm glad you got it sorted in the end. Do you happen to remember what you had to pay for it back then? And have you noticed anything else since replacing the faulty cable connection or was that really the solution to the problem? I look forward to your answer and thank you for your support! Greetings, username

Hi username, glad you're somewhat reassured! Oh yes, it really was an odyssey, no question. But you know, at the end of the day, cars are always kind of a box of surprises, aren't they? At least for me. You ask about the cost... I had to shell out €170 to have the damage to the cable connection repaired. Not exactly a bargain, but it definitely helped to solve the problem. And since then - good luck, good luck, good luck - the Astra is running like a kitten again! So, it looks like that really was the cause of the problem. The auxiliary coolant pump has been working again since the fault was rectified and I haven't had any more problems since. So everything is fine! If I were you, I would take the Mokka to a garage and have the cable connections checked there. Maybe you have exactly the same problem. In any case, keep your fingers crossed that you get it solved quickly and cheaply! Stay optimistic and keep us up to date. Greetings, your name

Hi Dein Name, thanks for the detailed reply and the good advice! That's a clear message. So, for better or worse, I'll have to make a trip to the workshop. Annoying, but sometimes you just have bad luck. It's good to know that your Astra has been running perfectly again since the repair. That definitely reassures me. And €170 doesn't sound like much, but in my eyes it's still better than a totally broken car. Thank you very much for your help and I will of course keep you up to date! Until then, all the best. Greetings, username
