Overheating and check engine light on 2005 Ford Maverick: Possible thermostat problems?

Hey guys, I have a small problem with my 2005 Ford Maverick (gasoline engine, 114028 km run). It keeps overheating and the check engine light is on. I think it might be the coolant thermostat. Have you ever had a similar problem and how did it go with your mechanic? I'm a bit worried after my last experience. Would appreciate your experience and advice. Thanks in advance!

Hey, have you checked for damage to the wiring harness in your Ford Maverick? I recently had a similar problem with my 2002 Ford Escape (three years older than your Maverick) and it turned out to be due to such damage. That's really serious and if it's really that, it's no small thing, man. In my case, they replaced the entire wiring harness because it was damaged beyond repair. So it may take some time before the car is back on the road. But it could also be that it's a bit easier for you and only a repair is necessary. It's best to have a mechanic look at it, he can then tell you exactly what's wrong. All the best, buddy!

Hey, thanks for your feedback! A wiring harness problem would be really bad. I didn't even have that on my radar. Do you happen to remember how much the replacement cost you? And have you had any problems with your car since then? I'd be interested to know how it developed after the repair. Hope nothing bad has happened again!

Hey, sure I can do that. It cost me €170 to repair the damage to the wiring harness. Since I've had the car at the mechanic, it's been running like clockwork, thank goodness. Especially the problem with the malfunction of the coolant thermostat was solved afterwards, no more overheating. From that point of view, the price was definitely worth it. No further problems have occurred so far, so everything is in the green zone! Hope it goes just as well for you, buddy!

Hey, thanks for the info! That reassures me a bit. It sounds like the wiring harness replacement might be a longer process, but if your car runs better afterwards then it's worth it. Your €170 sounds expensive, but if no more overheating would occur afterwards, it would be worth it. I will discuss this with my mechanic. Thanks again and hopefully your car will continue to be fine!
