Overheating and air conditioning problems in the Seat Altea: experience and solutions wanted

A/C System Not Engaging

Overheating

Hello everyone, I have noticed that my Seat Altea (model year 2017, petrol engine) is overheating and the air conditioning no longer switches on. I suspect that the engine fan speed sensor may be faulty. Have any of you had similar problems and can give tips on how to solve the problem? I'm particularly interested in how you fixed it in the workshop and what your experiences were. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I remember when my Seat Leon (built in 2015, petrol engine) had similar symptoms. I'm not a car expert, but I have a bit of experience. In the end, the control unit was defective. At my garage, they first carried out troubleshooting and then replaced the unit. It cost me around 1000 euros, but the car is running smoothly again. To help you more accurately, could you give more details? How does the car behave while driving? When did the problem first occur? The more information, the better I might be able to help. Hope this helps you a bit!

Thanks for the quick reply. The car behaved quite normally while driving, there were no jerks or anything like that. I first noticed the over temperature about 3 weeks ago. I just recently had it serviced, exactly at 65310 km. But they didn't seem to have found anything to worry about. It's good to know that it could also be the control unit, I hadn't considered such a thing. I will definitely bring this up at the next workshop visit. 1000 euros sounds a lot at first, but if it solves the problem, it would be worth it. Thanks again for your help!

Hey, no problem, I'm happy to help with my experience. Since there are no jerks while driving, I would actually consider the control unit. It sounds like your Seat is generally in good condition and has been serviced on time. Of course, I can only give tips from here and I'm not a professional like the people in the workshop. But I do have one good tip: if the thing needs to be replaced, you could perhaps consider a used control unit to save costs. In my case, the garage fitted a reconditioned unit and it worked perfectly. Your patience is the most important thing, workaround solutions can sometimes work, but to be on the safe side it might be a good idea to take it to a garage that knows about Seats. Fingers crossed that it's just the ECU and that it can be fixed cheaply. Be sure to give us an update. Good luck!

Hello and thank you for your encouraging words and valuable advice. I agree that the car is in good overall condition despite the current problem. Your idea of considering a used ECU if it does need replacing sounds sensible. I will definitely bring it up at my next garage appointment. And yes, patience is very important right now. I also hope that the problem can be fixed easily and cheaply. I will keep you posted as soon as there is any news. Thanks again, you've really helped me. Best regards!
