General electric malfunction

Hey all, having issues with my 2019 Outlander PHEV. The parking sensors stopped working completely, and I'm getting electrical fault warnings on the dash. The main warning light is on too. I suspect it's related to the parking aid system, but not totally sure. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms, and how did your mechanic fix it? Really interested in hearing about actual repair experiences and costs. Thanks!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2021 Eclipse Cross PHEV (I'm a Mitsubishi fan with some basic car experience). The symptoms were exactly like yours, parking sensors went dead and warning lights popped up. Turned out to be a loose cable connection in the parking sensor system. My local workshop found that moisture had caused some corrosion in one of the main connector plugs. They cleaned the connections and replaced the damaged cable, cost me around 170€ total. Fixed the problem completely. What trim level is your Outlander, and have you noticed any specific situations when the problem occurs (like after rain or car wash)? This info could help determine if it's the same issue I had.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My Outlander's acting up too with those sensor issues. Mine's at 150283 KM and just had its service last month. Got the top trim with all the bells and whistles, and yeah, I've noticed it gets worse after it rains. Thought it might just go away, but it's been pretty consistent now. Your repair seems pretty reasonable cost-wise, definitely beats what I was imagining! Think I'll get it checked out at my dealer to see if it's the same connector issue you had.

Hey again! Glad my previous response about the connector issue was helpful. Yeah, when you mentioned it gets worse after rain, that sounds exactly like what I dealt with. My Eclipse Cross had around 95,000 KM when this happened, and the rain connection makes total sense, it's definitely a moisture-related problem. Just wanted to add something I forgot to mention earlier: after they fixed mine, the mechanic recommended applying some dielectric grease to the connections to prevent future corrosion. Might be worth asking your dealer about that when you take it in. It's been about 8 months since my repair, and I haven't had any issues since, even during the really wet weather we had last month. One thing to watch out for, if your dealer quotes you way more than what I paid, don't be afraid to ask questions. Some places might try to replace the entire sensor system when just cleaning and replacing the damaged cable would do the trick. Keep me posted on what they find, curious to know if it's the same issue!

Thanks so much for the extra info! That tip about the dielectric grease is super helpful, definitely gonna mention that to my dealer. It's such a relief knowing you haven't had any issues since your repair, especially through wet weather. I've got an appointment booked for next Tuesday, and I'll make sure to ask about just fixing the cable before they try selling me a whole new system. Really appreciate you taking the time to share all this detail, you've saved me a lot of worry! Will let you know how it turns out when I get it checked. Thanks again for all your help!
