Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm dealing with this exact problem right now at my local mechanic's. It's good to know the fix worked out well for you. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you paid for the whole repair job? Also, has everything stayed okay since then, or have you noticed any other issues popping up?
Hey again! Yeah, happy to help! I actually just got my ASX fixed a few weeks back, paid exactly 360€ for sorting out that crankcase ventilation system. The mechanic did a thorough job, replaced what needed replacing, and cleaned everything up nicely. I can tell you with 100% certainty that it completely solved those annoying issues I mentioned before. My car's running like a dream now, no more shaking, stalling, or wasting fuel. The engine's smooth as butter, just like it should be. Haven't had a single problem since the repair, honestly. The check engine light's stayed off, and the power response is back to normal. It was definitely worth every euro spent. If you're getting yours fixed now, you're doing the right thing, catching it early probably saved me from bigger headaches down the road. Feel free to ask if you need any other info about how it's been running since the fix. I'm pretty relieved it turned out to be a straightforward solution!
Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback! I just got back from the mechanic today, and what a relief! The problem was exactly what you described, a clogged PCV system. They cleaned it all out, replaced the valve and some hoses, and I paid around 385€. A bit more than what you paid, but still reasonable considering how much better the car runs now. Took it for a test drive after picking it up, and wow, what a difference! The engine's running super smooth, no more stalling or shaking. That awful sluggish feeling when accelerating is completely gone. Even noticed the fuel gauge isn't dropping as fast as it was before. Really glad I decided to get it fixed instead of putting it off. The mechanic I went to this time was actually much better than my previous one, super transparent about what needed to be done and why. They even showed me the gunked-up old parts they removed. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me make the right decision. Fingers crossed it stays running this well!
Hey there, I had very similar issues with my 2012 Mitsubishi ASX Diesel last year. The symptoms were exactly like yours, rough idle, power loss, and increased fuel consumption. The check engine light was what finally made me take it in. Took it to the dealership, and yes, it turned out to be a clogged crankcase ventilation system. In my case, the PCV valve was completely gunked up, and the breather hoses were blocked with oil residue. They had to clean the whole system and replace the PCV valve and some hoses. It wasn't a super complex fix, but it's definitely not something to ignore. If left untreated, it can lead to oil leaks and potentially damage your engine seals. Mine had about 65,000 KM when this happened. The car's been running smoothly since the repair, no more stalling, power's back to normal, and fuel consumption is where it should be. I'd suggest getting it checked soon before it causes any bigger issues.
