Outlander's Multiple Issues Point to Critical Engine Fault

Hi all! Having serious trouble with my 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander Diesel. It's showing multiple symptoms: engine stalling, power loss, rough idle, jerking during acceleration, strong exhaust fumes, and CEL is on. Scanner shows misfires. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? What was the actual problem and how did your mechanic fix it? Any input would be helpful, especially from those who've had firsthand experience with this.

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2005 Mitsubishi Pajero Diesel (got some experience working on cars, but I'm no expert). Those symptoms sound exactly like what I went through last year. Had my regular workshop check it out and it turned out to be a faulty injector. The fix wasn't cheap, cost me around 515€ for parts and labor, but it solved all those issues completely. The symptoms you're describing are classic signs of injector problems. My car was also misfiring, had rough idle, and was basically a pain to drive until I got it fixed. What's your mileage? And have you noticed any metallic noise when the engine is running? Just wondering if your case might be similar to mine. Let me know and I can share more details about what my mechanic did to diagnose and fix it.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! My mileage is currently at 122019 KM, and I just had the regular service done last month. I'm not hearing any metallic noise, but those injector symptoms you mentioned sound spot on. Was your fuel consumption affected too? Mine's been drinking fuel like crazy lately. Definitely going to get those injectors checked out based on your experience. Really appreciate the heads up about the cost too, at least I can prepare my wallet for the hit!

Hey again! Same guy with the 2005 Pajero here. Oh yeah, the fuel consumption thing is so relatable! When my injector was acting up, my car was absolutely chugging fuel like there was no tomorrow. I remember checking my fuel gauge and being shocked at how quickly it was dropping. Your mileage (122019 KM) is actually pretty close to where mine was when the problem started (around 130K). And since you're not hearing any metallic noise, that's actually good news, makes me even more confident it's probably the injectors. Just to add to my previous reply, when my mechanic finally got in there, he found that one injector was completely shot and another one was starting to go bad. Ended up replacing both to be safe. Best decision ever, the difference in how the car runs now is like night and day! The black smoke disappeared, no more jerking, and my fuel economy went back to normal. Quick tip: while they're in there, have them check your fuel filter too. Mine was pretty gunked up, which probably didn't help the injector situation. Cost a bit extra but worth it for peace of mind. Keep us posted on what you find out!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! It's really helpful to hear from someone who's been through the exact same thing. I've just booked it in at my local Mitsubishi specialist for tomorrow morning, and I'll definitely ask them to check both the injectors and the fuel filter like you suggested. Actually pretty relieved it's likely something fixable, was worried it might be something way worse! I'll definitely update the thread once I get the diagnosis. Fingers crossed it won't be more than two injectors that need replacing. My bank account is already crying thinking about that 515€ you mentioned, but hey, better than being stranded somewhere with a dead car! Thanks again for all your help!
