Hey, thanks for your quick reply, that really puts my mind at rest. This seems to be a common problem with these models. Was it very expensive to replace the engine control unit? Can you still remember what your mechanic charged? I would also be interested to know if any other problems have occurred since you changed the unit. Thanks again for the support here.

Hello again, no problem, I'm happy to help! To be completely honest, replacing the engine control unit did cost a bit. I put a whopping €1000 on the table, but the car ran like clockwork again afterwards, so it was definitely worth it for me. The malfunction of the charge air temperature sensor on the old Vectra was also fixed. To be honest, since the visit to the mechanic, the car has been running like clockwork again. No further faults or similar. Haven't had to go back to the workshop yet. Hope this helps you! Good luck and I wish you a stress-free workshop visit!

Hi, thanks for the feedback and for sharing your experience. That really helps me a lot! Okay, €1000 is not a lot, but if the car runs again afterwards, then it's probably worth considering. It's still cheaper than a new car. It's great that you haven't had any more problems since then! I'll take it up with my mechanic then. Thanks again for the support and your good wishes. Have a good day, buddy!

Hi mate, I can well understand what you're going through. I had almost exactly the same problems with my 2006 Opel Vectra last year. In my case, it was ultimately the evaluation electronics that were defective, in other words the engine control unit. Exactly the same symptoms as you, black smoke, increasing fuel consumption, loss of power and so on. So it was a pretty serious matter and had to be fixed to avoid wrecking the entire engine. The mechanic said it would be better to completely replace the old engine control unit than to repair it, as it was already pretty worn out. It was probably a general thing with this generation of vehicle. I'm telling you, after the thing was changed, the car ran like new, no kidding, so don't worry too much. Feels like the car has been given a new lease of life ;) In short, have a look at the engine control unit, could be the problem, just like my old Vectra. Good luck with that!
