Opel Omega ignition problems: Experiences and advice wanted

Hi guys, I'm really at a loss and hope you can help me. I drive an Opel Omega from 2001 with a gasoline engine and already have a good 112888 km on the clock. Recently the ignition won't turn on and the car just won't start, I suspect something could be wrong with the ignition starter switch. Have you had similar experiences? How did it go with your mechanic? Unfortunately I wasn't so lucky last time and want to be better prepared this time. Thanks for your help!

Summary of the thread

An Opel Omega from 2001 is experiencing ignition problems, suspected to be related to the ignition starter switch. Similar issues in other vehicles have been linked to either a faulty ignition starter switch or damaged wiring harness. Solutions include replacing the ignition starter switch or repairing the wiring harness, both of which have resolved similar problems in other cases. Seeking a mechanic's assessment and obtaining a repair quote are recommended steps to address the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I drive a 2002 Opel Vectra and recently had a similar problem. My wiring harness was actually defective. It turned out that the cables to my ignition were damaged and had to be replaced. That was a bit annoying, of course, because I had to leave the car in the workshop for a few days. But once the guys had replaced the wiring harness, my Vectra was running like a champ again. So I can only recommend having it checked. Maybe it's the same problem. Good luck and hopefully it's nothing serious!

Hi everyone, I also had a similar incident with my Opel Omega. On mine, however, the ignition starter switch was actually broken. I had it replaced at the garage and the problem hasn't reappeared since. You said you replaced the wiring harness, but do you remember what you ended up paying for it? And were there any other complications afterwards? Hopefully a solution can be found for you!

Hey, yes, that's right, the cost of repairing the wiring harness was actually €95. Although this is of course a small investment at first, it was definitely worth it, because since then, and this is really true, I haven't had any more problems! And as far as the ignition starter switch is concerned, I can confirm that it was the same for me. I had it replaced at the same time and it turned out that the fault was actually there, so good tip from you! I haven't had any more problems since then. I'm glad that everything is running smoothly again. I hope it works just as well for you!

Hey, thank you very much for your advice. It's reassuring to know that I'm not completely wrong with my suspicions. It really does seem that either the wiring harness or the ignition starter switch is the problem. Your experience with the cost of repairing the wiring harness also sounds reasonable if it saves me problems afterwards. And that's good to know about the ignition starter switch! I think I'll take it up with the mechanic directly and get a quote. I also hope that it's nothing serious and that my Opel will be running again soon. I will definitely keep you posted and let you know what comes out. Thanks again for your help!
