Engine shuts off by itself

Hello everyone, I have been having problems with my 2013 Opel Cascada, gasoline engine with 56,438 km mileage. The Check Engine light comes on, the engine shuts off by itself, cold starts take longer, engine performance decreases, the engine runs rough and sometimes the car won't start at all. I suspect it could be the crankshaft sensor. Have you ever had similar problems? How did you deal with it and what was your experience at the garage? Unfortunately, I didn't have a good experience on my last visit to the garage, so I'd like some opinions or advice before I set off again. Many thanks in advance!

Hi buddy, a few months ago I had similar symptoms with my 2010 Opel Insignia. You could be right, it does sound like a faulty crankshaft sensor, especially the problem with the cold start and engine power dropping. I took it to my garage and they actually found a faulty wiring harness and connector on the crankshaft sensor. This was a pretty serious problem because the sensor sends important information to the engine management system and if that information comes in wrong or not at all, it can lead to serious engine problems. They had to replace the wiring harness and connector and check the sensor. They also recalibrated the engine management system to make sure everything was working properly again. It was no small thing, but I can tell you since then my car has been running like a dream again. I hope this helps you and you have better luck at your next garage visit! Good luck!

Moin mate, your info sounds very helpful, thanks for that! It definitely sounds like it could be the same problem I'm having with my Cascada. Your experience sounds a lot more stressful than I would have expected though. Do you happen to remember what it cost you to get it fixed? And have you had any other problems with the car since then? Many thanks & best regards!

Hey, can I remember that? Sure! The bill was a tough pill to swallow, but it was worth it. I had to fork out €170.00 to repair the wiring harness and the crankshaft sensor plug. But it was definitely worth it, because my car has been running smoothly again ever since. There is no longer any trace of the crankshaft sensor malfunction. And the fact that the car runs like clockwork again has eased the shock to my wallet a little! So, don't worry, take it to the workshop. You'll see that your Cascada will be better again afterwards! Good luck and have a safe journey!

Hi again, thanks so much, your experience sounds really reassuring! It's an expensive repair, but if it gets my car going again, it's worth it. Thankfully you haven't had any further problems since the repair, that gives me hope that my problem can finally be solved too. I'll make an appointment at the garage tomorrow and hopefully I'll soon be able to drive again without any problems. Thanks again for your help and advice, it really helped me! Have a safe journey and stay healthy!
