Opel Adam 2016: Black smoke, unsteady performance and high fuel consumption - experiences and solutions wanted

Strong exhaust smell

Unsteady engine

Engine shuts off by itself

Poor fuel economy

Stalling while idling

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Hey guys, I've got a 2016 Opel Adam with a petrol engine and around 175,790km on the clock and I'm really struggling at the moment. The car emits black smoke from the exhaust when accelerating, the indicator light is on, it just cuts out, there's no power, the engine runs unevenly, it jerks when accelerating, fuel consumption is high, the exhaust stinks and it regularly stalls when idling. I strongly suspect that this has something to do with fuel pressure deviation from the setpoint. Do any of you have experience with this kind of situation and how did you sort it out with the mechanic after a bad experience? Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2013 Opel Corsa. Same symptoms - stuttering engine, high fuel consumption, and black smoke. After a few checks at the garage, it was found that the fuel filter I had recently changed was faulty. I got the error code "fuel pressure deviation from set point", which can be a pretty serious problem. My mechanic explained to me that there was a faulty connection between the filter and the engine line, resulting in the engine not getting the correct amount of fuel. Hence the rough running and stalling at idle. A tip from me: The error display after changing the fuel filter can indicate a serious problem, so don't hesitate to drive to the workshop as soon as possible. It wasn't a pleasant day at the garage, but in the end I'm glad I caught it in time!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! It seems like you went through pretty much exactly what I'm experiencing right now. Can I ask how much you ended up paying for all of this? And has any other issue come up since changing the fuel filter? As far as that goes, I'm right there with you: better get it to the garage right away, otherwise it could get even more expensive!

Hey, no problem, I'm happy to help! After all the searching around, the mechanic fortunately fixed the problem with the "fuel injection pressure deviating from the set value". Now my little Opel is running like clockwork again. I paid €45 to fix the problem with the error entry after changing the fuel filter. It was an unexpected cost, but I'm glad it wasn't more! No further problems have arisen since the repair, but you know you can never be sure with cars! Stay careful and always keep one hand on the wheel.

Thanks for all the chunks of information. That definitely takes me a long way forward. It just made me curious about how much it would cost me and whether I need to prepare myself for further problems. 45.0€ sounds like a fair figure, so I'm reassured. Your experience has helped me a lot and I now feel ready to tackle my problem. Hey, and be safe, one hand always stays on the wheel! Oh, and before I forget, thanks for the advice. Off to the garage we go!
