So, after I took my car to the garage, they were able to fix the problem with the engine oil. The problem was with the oil channels, which were unfortunately blocked by small plastic parts - quite annoying, I have to say. The repair was a real pain and cost me a hefty €2400 - expensive, but what won't you do for your beloved BMW, right?

@Erick
The oil light came on and the next fault it shows is 0030C1 DME: engine oil pressure control, static.
Hello Erick, This fault usually indicates a defective oil pressure control valve. You should also check whether the guide rails of the timing chain are still intact or are already hanging in the oil strainer of the oil pan. MFG

If not, I would recommend doing so. Also, check the oil pump relay and fuse. If the problem persists, it might be a good idea to have a mechanic inspect the oil pump itself.
Hello, I had connecting rod bearing damage on my X5 35i E70 N55. The engine was dismantled by the garage, new crankshaft/conrod main bearing, new oil pump installed and everything was fine when tested. Now the mechanic is not here until September. I get the red oil light after a bit of driving and, according to the readout, the error message: Engine oil pressure control pressure too low, engine oil pump pressure too low and map thermostat short circuit to positive. I guess I need a new thermostat. But I would be interested to know what the red oil lamp is all about. Normally 5W30 is used but according to the mechanic it is better to use 5W40??? Thanks in advance for tips and ideas. LG

Hey, I had a similar problem last time with my BMW X3 from 2013. The oil light flickered and the noise from the engine compartment was really noticeable. In the end, the oil pressure sensor had to be replaced. It was quite serious because it could damage your engine. However, there were no metal shavings in the oil, which certainly doesn't bode well in your case, sorry!
