Oil lamp lights up 2008 BMW 5 Series gasoline engine

Oil light on

Hello community, I have a problem with my 2008 BMW 5 series gasoline engine, which now has 135813 km on the clock. My oil light is on. I'm afraid it has something to do with a faulty signal from the oil level sensor. Have any of you had similar problems and can tell me how it went with your mechanic? I have to be honest, I wasn't really happy last time and am worried that something worse is going on. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey, I have a 2011 BMW 5 Series diesel and had something similar. The indicator light flickered from time to time. After some hesitation, I went to the garage. The whole thing was actually less complicated than I thought - it was simply due to insufficient oil. Please visit a trustworthy mechanic immediately. I wouldn't hesitate for long with things like this - better safe than sorry. Good luck, buddy.

Hey, your experience does sound a bit worrying. Can you by any chance remember how expensive it was? And have you encountered any more problems since then or are you under the impression that everything is fine now? Thanks for your feedback!

Hey, it cost me €165 back then because there wasn't enough oil in the engine. Since the mechanic topped it up, everything has been running like clockwork. I haven't had any further problems so far. Hope that helps you!
