Noisy Start and Exhaust in 2015 Dacia Logan: Possible Exhaust Flap Issue?

Hey, recently I've noticed that my 2015 Dacia Logan petrol engine (94,436 km on the clock) kicks up quite the racket when starting from cold, and the exhaust sounds excessively noisy too. I suspect the exhaust flap might be playing up, but after a dodgy episode with the local mechanic last time, I'm in two minds about it. Anyone experienced something similar and knows which direction I should head? Your insights could save my wallet (and my car). Cheers in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Dacia Logan is experiencing excessive noise when starting from cold, suspected to be due to an exhaust flap issue. A similar case with a 2018 Dacia Duster revealed that a stuck exhaust flap was the cause, leading to noise and potential engine problems. The recommended solution is to have the exhaust flap checked and possibly replaced to prevent further issues. Addressing the problem early can avoid more costly repairs in the future.

Hey, sounds quite familiar. I've got a 2018 Dacia Duster and had similar issues not long ago. Turns out, the exhaust flap was indeed the culprit. It was getting stuck in the open position, which was causing that rattle and excessive noise you mentioned. It was throwing codes and causing the engine light to come on every now and then. So yeah, pretty serious issue. Ignoring it can lead to more severe problems down the road. I took it to my local garage and they had to replace the flap entirely as it was past the point of repair. what an annoyance. Trust me, get it checked out pronto. Don’t let it go on for too long. The earlier you catch these things, the better. Hope this helps. Good luck with it!

Hey there, cheers for the advice! You've pretty much confirmed my suspicion about the flap. I reckon I can't push my luck too much longer. So, you had to change the entire flap, huh? Just out of curiosity, do you remember how much it set you back? Also, since you've got it sorted, has anything else cropped up related to this, or has your Duster been rattling along happily since? Appreciate your help!

Hey! So, about the cost, it was not quite the aftershock I was bracing myself for. The repair bill to get that defective exhaust flap sorted out was 190€. Now, that might seem like a dent in the wallet, but comparing it to escalating repair costs if ignored, pretty much a fair deal. As for your other question, since getting it sorted by the mechanic, I'm glad to report that the issue is a closed chapter. No more bothersome rattles or any other gremlins related to the exhaust. The old Duster's been smooth sailing since then! So, yeah get it checked out. Don't let it become a bigger headache than it needs to be. Cheers!

Hey, absolute relief hearing this from you! Cheers for sharing the cost too, it's not exactly peanuts but like you said, still better than letting the repair costs pile up later. I'll definitely get my Logan checked out then. Thanks a ton for pointing me in the right direction and giving me a bit of peace-of-mind. Glad to hear your Duster's been behaving well! Take care and happy driving! Cheers.
