Nissan Terra Diesel 2021: Check Engine Light, Power Drop, Unsteady Engine, and Acceleration Issue - Possible Boost Pressure Control Problem?

Check engine light on

Jerking on acceleration

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Hey folks, having a bit of a pickle with my 2021 Nissan Terra Diesel. The old girl's started acting up with signs like check engine light being stubbornly on, power dropping off, her engine doesn't seem steady and also jerks on acceleration. I'm tilting towards the idea that the issue could lie in the boost pressure control. Anyone else faced a similar problem? How did your workshop handle it and what was your experience like? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2019 Nissan Pathfinder Diesel. I'd say I've got some experience with cars, but by no means a pro. I noticed my rig acting the same – rough engine performance, jerky on acceleration, and that annoying engine light. My mechanic ended up adjusting the Wastegate valve linkage, which cost me 240€. It solved the problem, and she's been running like a dream ever since. This might be the case for your Terra as well, although there might be some differences due to the model. Could you share more about your vehicle, like the specific model and mileage? I might be able to give a more tailored advice then. Hope that helps!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! My Nissan Terra Diesel has clocked about 90134 KM, the last service was done a few months ago. I'm not that good with car stuff and usually leave it to my trusted mechanic. Given the symptoms, I'll definitely mention the Wastegate valve linkage to him next time I go in for a check. The price seems quite reasonable if it gets the ol' girl back up and running smoothly! Cheers for the advice!

No problem at all, happy to help out! Now that I know the specifics of your Terra, the Wastegate valve linkage seems to be a good starting point. Just a heads up though, sometimes an unsteady engine can also be indicative of a possible clog in the fuel filter, which might also result in power loss. Considering your Terra's mileage, it wouldn't hurt to have that checked out as well. I totally understand if cars aren't your thing and leaving it to the mechanic is the wisest choice. Just let your mechanic know about these details you and I discussed. The price for a Wastegate valve linkage adjustment or even a fuel filter change won't break the bank, and I'm confident you'll be back on smooth drives in no time! And do share the outcome back here, it might help other fellow Diesel owners in the future. Keep it rolling!

Thanks a ton! Now that you've mentioned it, the fuel filter aspect does ring a bell. My mechanic had hinted towards a possible fuel issue during the last service. Maybe these two are connected. I'll make a note and mention both these - the Wastegate valve linkage and a possible fuel filter clog - to the chap. Love the fact that neither of these will make my wallet hit rock bottom. You've been a great help! I'll keep you updated when the old girl's back on her wheels. Possibly it might come in handy for others who hit the same bump. Cheers to smooth driving, car buddies! Take care!
