Hey, thanks a ton for sharing your experience, really appreciate it. Seems like our symptoms align almost perfectly, especially with that eerie shuddering and that rotten egg smell, so I guess the EGR valve might indeed be the culprit for my Primera. You said that they managed to fix your problem by cleaning and replacing parts of the EGR valve. Do you recall roughly how much that set you back? Also, have you noticed any recurring or new issues since the repair? Just wanna get a handle on the situation before I dive in. Cheers!

Hey, not a problem at all, happy to help. When I brought my Almera in, they had to give the EGR valve a thorough working over - included cleaning some parts, and replacing others that were beyond saving. The bill came up to around 355 Euro, not exactly small change, but taking into account that it essentially gave my car a new lease of life, I personally felt it was worth it. And to answer your last question, after they fixed the EGR valve the car's been running much smoother. I haven't experienced any of those earlier pesky issues since the repair - no more strange shutoffs, and no more godawful stinks. So, fingers crossed it's cleared it all up for good! But, you know, every car's different and so is every mechanic's ability. The best advice I can give is to research and find a trustworthy mechanic, because no amount of DIY advice substitutes for a good professional on board. Best of luck with your Primera! Hope you manage to get it sorted without much fuss.

Hey again, thanks a bunch for the detailed info. Good to hear your Almera's been behaving well post-repair, gives me some hope for my Primera. That figure of 355 Euro does sound a bit hefty, but if it does the job and gets things right, who am I to complain! Totally agree about the mechanic bit, a good one is worth their weight in gold. Guess I'll have to go hunt for a new one now, hoping for a much better experience this time. Thanks for all your help, you've made this whole process a lot less daunting. Here's hoping my Primera and I'll be back on the road without any problems soon!

Hey there, sounds like we've had pretty similar issues. Had a similar experience with my 2002 Nissan Almera (Petrol, 290,000 KM), and yep, it was an EGR valve playing up. Just like your Primera, mine showed the check engine light, the performance definitely dipped, and that unpleasant exhaust odor was hard to ignore. There was this uncanny shuddering at idle too. To be honest, I found this to be a serious issue as it directly related to the engine's performance and functionality. So, I took it to my local garage - they confirmed it was the EGR valve causing the problems. Apparently, the valve had become defective and gotten stuck, which was messing up the exhaust recirculation process. They fixed it up for me by cleaning, and in certain areas, replacing parts of the EGR component due to wear and tear. The ideal solution may be different for your car, depending on the exact issue, but getting the EGR valve sorted definitely cleared up the issues I was facing. Recommendation - don't ignore it, check it out soon. Hope this helps you out and you have a smoother garage experience this time around!
