Nissan Cube 2020 Diesel Variant Experiences Smoke, Reduced Engine Power and DPF Regeneration Issues

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

DPF regeneration failure

Strong exhaust smell

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Hey everyone, I’ve got a 2020 Nissan Cube, diesel variant, with around 138,888 KM on the clock. Lately, I've noticed some black smoke puffing out when I accelerate, an odd smell from the exhaust, my engine light is lit up like a Christmas tree and there's a noticeable decrease in engine power. On top of this, it looks like my DPF regeneration is messed up too. I think the diesel particulate filter might be overloaded. I had a pretty crappy experience with a mechanic last time around, so trying to avoid going down that road again. Anyone here experienced something similar? If so, how did you resolve it? And more importantly, could you recommend a reliable mechanic? Any help or suggestions would be awesome!

Hey there, I feel your pain. I got a 2017 Nissan Juke, diesel as well, and I had the same symptoms. Black smoke, weird smell, engine light on for a party, and poor engine power. This is pretty much a classic sign of a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) issue. If it's anything like my experience, your DPF might be internally defective and the darn thing just won't regenerate anymore. These signs are basically the car's way of crying out loud that the DPF needs replacing or repair. I took it to my local garage, they ran diagnostics and sure enough, the DPF was the issue. They had to replace it and since then, my Juke has been running sweet. They're mechanical parts, they can and do fail unfortunately. As for mechanics, I'd recommend looking for someone specialising in diesel engines, they're likely to be more comfortable working with the DPF system. I know you had a bad time previously with one, but don't let that put you off. There are diamond mechanics out there, just need to find 'em! Stay on top of it though. An untreated DPF issue can lead to serious engine damage. Good luck with it!

Hey, Thanks for sharing your experience! It does sound quite similar to my situation indeed. It's honestly a bummer that this DPF issue is causing so many hassles. Goes to show the diesel life isn't always smooth sailing, right? On another note, you mentioned you had yours replaced at a local garage. Do you recall about how much that set you back? I'm trying to brace myself for the potential hit on my wallet. Additionally, has anything else popped up after you got the DPF fixed or has your Juke been cruising smoothly since then? Appreciate your advice on finding a mechanic! I'll definitely try to scout for some diesel experts this time around. Fingers crossed I stumble upon a gem like you did! Cheers!

Hey, Yeah, the diesel life can throw us a curveball or two! Regarding the cost, it set me back by around 1550 Euro. Not exactly pocket change, I know. But since getting it sorted, my Juke has been cruising along like a dream, no more black smoke or dashboard disco. The heavy load on the DPF was causing the issue, and the mechanic fixed that up nicely. It apparently was a case of internal defect, which was mended. So yeah, aside from that initial hit to the wallet, things have been smooth! Here's hoping your Cube will soon be back in tip-top shape too. Good luck finding your gem of a mechanic dude, they're out there! Cheers!

Hey, Thanks for your response! Okay, 1550 Euro is indeed a hit but it's relieving to know that it was a one-time thing in your case. I'm gearing myself up for the same and I just hope this is the only biggie I need to deal with for a good while, ya know! Knowing your Juke has been cruising smoothly after the DPF repair provides some comfort. Let's hope my Cube follows suit after being nursed back to health. And yeah, the hunt for a reliable mechanic is on! I could surely use all the luck. Appreciate your help and advice, dude. Cheers!
