Nissan Almera 2015 Diesel: Experiencing Power Loss, Unsteady Engine, and Check Engine Light On

Check engine light on

Jerking on acceleration

Shaking while idling

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Loud hissing on acceleration

Hey folks, I'm having some issues with my 2015 Nissan Almera, diesel, clocking in at about 11731 KM mileage. Lately, she's been acting weird - power loss, unsteady engine, jerky when I push the accelerator, sounds like a mad hissing snake under the hood on acceleration, shaking while idling, and that pesky check engine light is on and won't go off. I got some bad vibes from my mechanic last time around, so I'm trying to figure this out myself. My gut says it could be a Swirl flap control error on the intake manifold. Anyone else have this happen? What did your mech say or do to fix it? All experiences and suggestions are welcome! Cheers.

Hey there I fully sympathize with your situation. I drive a 2012 Nissan Sentra and faced pretty similar symptoms with my machine a while back. Lost power? Check. Unsteady engine? Check. Jerky acceleration? Oh, indeed. Those were some rough times. Long story short, turns out my gut feeling was right - it was indeed the swirl flap that was busted. My mech figured it out by using a diagnostic tool to check the car's computer for error codes as I had this nagging check engine light on too. The issue was quite serious as the swirl flap helps to control the fuel and air mixture, which helps in burning the diesel more efficiently in the engine. So, any damage or fault in the swirl flap can result in poor engine performance and fuel efficiency, just like what you are experiencing. To fix the issue, my mechanic had to remove the manifold, replace the broken swirl flap and clean the intake manifold. It wasn't a quick fix, but definitely a necessary one. Based on your description, your issue sounds just like what I experienced. Swirl flap issue might indeed be the culprit. I'd suggest talking to a reliable mechanic and getting the error codes read. If it is the swirl flap, it's going to need some work, but it'll get your car running smoothly once again. Hope this tip helps you out. Good luck with it!

Hey, thanks for sharing your story! It really sounds similar to what I'm dealing with right now. It's such a pain, isn't it? And yeah, I figured it wouldn't be a quick and easy fix. When you got your swirl flap replaced, do you remember roughly how much it set you back? Just trying to get an idea of what I might be in for. And since the fix, has anything else related to this come up or has your Sentra been running smoothly? Any further issues or all good in the hood? I'm definitely going to find myself a trusty mechanic and have those codes read. Appreciate the suggestion!

Hey, no problem at all! Nothing worse than car problems, right? As for that swirl flap issue, it did make a notable dent in my wallet. The mechanic charged me about 865€ to fix it. Not exactly pocket change, but considering how bumpy the ride had become, it was money well spent. Post the fix, my Sentra has been purring like a kitten, it's running like butter on a hot skillet. So, that's a big plus, I can surely say since getting the swirl flap sorted out, no more pestering issues. My guess is, once your Almera gets this treatment, she'll be humming along just fine as well. Anyway, good luck with the fix, and here's hoping your beast gets back in full swing soon!

Thanks again for all the details! Although the price is a bit steep, hearing how your Sentra is running like butter on a hot skillet now, it definitely sounds like a worthy investment to get old Bessie back on track. Here's to hoping it's really just a swirl flap issue. I'll head over to the mechanic and let him run the diagnostic. I'll definitely let you know how it pans out! Can't wait to hit the road with her purring like she used to. Thanks for the well wishes, and happy motoring to you too!
