N300 Dashboard & Tail Light Switch Mystery Needs Solving

Error in the lighting

Lights are turning on

Having trouble with my 2017 Chevy N300's lighting system. The dashboard lights keep acting up and the tail lights out of nowhere turn on. The mechanic pulled some error codes but I'm suspecting a bad car switch or wiring issue. Really don't want to get ripped off at the shop again. Car details: 2017 Chevrolet N300, Gas engine, 113,816 km Has anyone dealt with similar lighting issues? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Looking for advice before heading back to a shop.

Had the same lighting problems on my 2014 Chevy Spark last month. Unusual tail lights activation and flickering dashboard lights pointed to a faulty body control module connector. The main wiring harness that connects to the light switch assembly had corroded pins, causing intermittent electrical issues throughout the lighting system. The fix required cleaning the connector pins and replacing a section of the wiring harness. It wasn't a major repair job, but diagnosing the exact problem took some time since electrical issues can be tricky to pinpoint. The symptoms match your situation perfectly, the unusual activation of tail lights and dashboard lights acting up are classic signs of a compromised wiring connection. Worth checking the ground connections and fuse box first, but based on the error codes and symptoms, you're likely looking at either a failing body control module connection or corroded wiring harness. These electrical gremlins usually don't go away on their own and can lead to bigger problems if left unchecked.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Spark's electrical issues. My N300 is doing the exact same thing with the dashboard lights and tail lights acting up. The mechanic did mention something about the body control module but wanted to charge a fortune just to diagnose it. How much did you end up paying for the harness repair and connector cleaning? I'm trying to budget for this fix and wondering if anything else popped up since getting it repaired? I've already checked the fuse box and dimmer switch but no luck there.

Good news, you were right about the similar symptoms. Just got my N300 back from the shop and they found the exact same issue with the connector pins. The automotive switch assembly's wiring had a faulty connection that was causing those unusual electrical problems with the dashboard lights and tail lights. The total repair came to 95 €, mostly labor for diagnosing and fixing the cable connection. Much cheaper than replacing the entire body control module, which is what another shop tried to sell me. The mechanic showed me where the connection was loose and cleaned up some minor corrosion while they were at it. Since the repair last week, all the lighting issues have completely cleared up. No more unusual tail light activation or dashboard light problems. The dimmer switch works perfectly now too. If your symptoms match what I had, you're probably looking at a similar fix rather than a major electrical problem. Quick tip, make sure they check all the ground points and clean any corrosion while they're in there. It's worth the extra few minutes to prevent future issues.

Had to get the N300 fixed today and thankfully it wasn't nearly as expensive as I feared. The mechanic found corroded pins in the headlight switch connector, just like you mentioned. The dashboard lights and tail light issues were all coming from that bad connection. Total bill came to 110 € for cleaning the connector pins, replacing a small section of wiring, and checking all the ground points. They also did a full check of the fuse box while diagnosing everything. Much better than the 500+ € another shop quoted for replacing the whole body control module! Car's running perfectly now, no more unusual lighting issues or electrical gremlins. All the dashboard lights work like they should, and the tail lights stay off unless they're supposed to be on. Really glad I got a second opinion instead of jumping into expensive repairs right away.
