Thanks for your detailed response! And yes, all problems started suddenly after heavy rain last week. Haven't noticed any flickering lights, but the radio sometimes cuts out too, which I forgot to mention. My latest service was just 2 months ago at 117518 KM, and everything was fine back then. Will definitely get it checked asap, your corrosion theory makes sense given the rain. Did your mechanic mention how long it took them to fix it? Just trying to plan ahead since it's my daily driver.
Hey again! Ah, the rain detail definitely rings a bell, that's exactly what happened with my Lancer too! After reading about the radio cutting out as well, I'm even more convinced it's similar to what I experienced. In my case, once I mentioned the rain to my mechanic, they knew exactly where to look. The repair took about 3-4 hours total. They had to dry out some components and treat them with anti-corrosion spray too, just to prevent future issues. I remember they also checked the drainage channels near the windshield because apparently, water can sometimes find its way to the control units through there if they're clogged. Since you mentioned it's your daily driver (mine was too), my mechanic was able to fit me in first thing in the morning and I had the car back by lunch. Might be worth asking your workshop if they can do the same. Also, while they're at it, get them to check the rubber seals around your doors and windows, my mechanic found a slightly worn seal that was letting water in during heavy rain. One more thing, after the fix, I started parking in covered areas whenever possible during rainy weather. Haven't had any issues since then (it's been about 8 months now). Hope this helps give you a better idea of what to expect!
Thanks so much for all this info, it's super helpful! I'll definitely mention the rain connection to my mechanic and ask them to check those drainage channels and seals too. Good to know it's potentially just a 3-4 hour job, that's way better than I was fearing! I'll give my regular workshop a call first thing tomorrow and see if they can squeeze me in. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience in such detail. It's given me some peace of mind knowing it's probably fixable without breaking the bank. I'll also start being more mindful about parking in covered spots during bad weather once it's fixed. Will update the thread once I get it sorted in case anyone else runs into similar issues!
Hey there! I had a very similar issue with my 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer (I have some experience working on cars, but electrical stuff isn't my forte). The symptoms were almost identical, multiple electrical gremlins showing up at once. Turned out the main cable connection to the control unit was corroded and not properly communicating with the BUS system. Took it to my trusted workshop, and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. The fix involved replacing some wiring and cleaning the connection points. Cost me around 155 Euro, but it solved all the electrical issues at once. Before I can give more specific advice, could you share: Have you noticed any other electrical issues (like flickering lights)? Did these problems start suddenly or gradually? Has the car been exposed to water damage or extreme weather? FYI, it's worth checking this out soon, driving with compromised electrical systems isn't great for your car's health.
