Mokka EV Owner Reports Critical Electrical System Issues

Weak battery when starting the engine

General electric malfunction

Dim or flickering lights

Hey everyone, having issues with my 2021 Vauxhall Mokka Electric. Getting general electric malfunction warnings, stored fault codes, and the lights are flickering/dimming. Battery seems weak during startup too. I suspect it might be related to terminal 30 interruption, but not entirely sure. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? If you got it fixed, what was the actual problem and how did your mechanic resolve it? Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I have some experience with EVs (I'd say low to medium level). I actually faced something very similar with my 2019 Vauxhall Corsa-e last winter. Had those same symptoms, warning lights, flickering, and weak startup. Turned out the 12V auxiliary battery was failing, not the main EV battery. Took it to my regular shop (Mike's Auto Electric), and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. The replacement and programming cost me about 290€, but it fixed everything. Before you make any assumptions though, what's your Mokka's mileage, and have you noticed any other specific warning messages? Also, has the issue gotten worse over time or did it start suddenly? This info would help to confirm if you're dealing with the same problem I had. If it is the auxiliary battery, it's a pretty straightforward fix, but definitely needs proper diagnostic tools to confirm.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My mileage is at 13075 KM, and I just got it serviced last month. The issue started quite suddenly, literally just a few days ago. Haven't noticed any specific warning messages other than the general electric malfunction one I mentioned. It's good to know about your auxiliary battery situation, that actually makes a lot of sense given my symptoms. I'll definitely get that checked out first. Did you notice any particular pattern with the flickering lights before you got it fixed?

Hey again! Glad I can help out more. Yeah, thinking back to my Corsa-e situation, the flickering lights actually had a bit of a pattern. It was most noticeable when I was using multiple electrical systems at once, like when I had the heater running and turned on the headlights. The flickering would get worse during these moments. Also, the intensity of the flickering would increase when the car was idling compared to when I was driving. Since your mileage is pretty similar to what mine was when I had the issue (I was around 14,000 KM), and the symptoms started suddenly like mine did, I'm even more convinced it's the auxiliary battery. Especially since you just had it serviced, sometimes these issues can pop up right after a service if the battery was already on its way out and got drained during the service procedures. One quick test you can try, if you've got a voltmeter, check the auxiliary battery voltage when the car is off. If it's below 12V, that's a pretty good indicator. That's what I did before taking it to the shop, and it helped confirm my suspicions. Let me know how it goes, curious to hear if it turns out to be the same issue!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's super helpful, especially about the flickering being worse during idle and with multiple systems running, that's exactly what I'm experiencing! I actually just checked the voltage like you suggested, and it's reading 11.6V, which doesn't sound great based on what you're saying. I think I'll go ahead and book it in at my local Vauxhall dealer tomorrow. Really glad I asked here first, at least now I can go in with a pretty good idea of what the problem might be instead of being completely in the dark. I'll definitely let you know what they find when I get it checked out. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's been really reassuring to know someone else has dealt with this and got it sorted without too much hassle!
