Mokka EV Cooling System Failure: Troubleshooting Guide

Air conditioning blows warm air

|

Overheating

Hey everyone, my 2022 Mokka EV is having cooling issues. AC is only pushing hot air and the car seems to be overheating. I suspect the electric cooling fan might be the culprit. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Really interested in hearing about your repair experiences and what the actual problem turned out to be. What did your mechanic find and fix? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! (Some experience with EVs) I had a really similar issue with my 2020 Vauxhall Corsa-e last summer. The symptoms were exactly the same, AC blowing hot air and overheating warnings. Took it to my regular EV workshop, and they diagnosed a faulty electric fan control unit/resistor. Got it sorted for about 480€, parts and labor included. The repair took about half a day. Since you've got the Mokka EV, nice choice, btw, would you mind sharing if you're getting any warning lights on the dash? And how long has this been happening? Could help pinpoint if it's the same issue I had. Let me know if you need more details about my repair experience!

Thanks for sharing your experience! Really helpful info about the control unit. Mine's been acting up for about a week now, and yeah, I'm getting a yellow warning light on the dash occasionally. Been keeping an eye on it since my last service at 250633 KM. It's especially noticeable when I'm stuck in traffic or doing longer drives. Think I'll get it checked out at my usual EV place, sounds like it could be the same problem you had. Appreciate the heads up on the potential cost too, at least now I know what I might be looking at!

Hey again! (Original Corsa-e owner here) Yeah, that yellow warning light you mentioned sounds exactly like what I experienced, it's like déjà vu! When mine started acting up, it was also more noticeable in traffic. Just be careful with those longer drives until you get it sorted, especially now that we're heading into warmer weather. Since you mentioned your mileage (wow, 250k+ km, impressive!), I should add that I've actually hit a similar milestone with my Corsa-e (around 235k km now), and after getting that fan control unit fixed, it's been running like a charm. Haven't had any cooling issues since. Quick tip from my experience, when you take it in, ask them to check the coolant levels and circulation too. My mechanic did a complete cooling system inspection while they were at it, just to be on the safe side. Didn't cost much extra but gave me peace of mind. Keep us posted on what your mechanic finds! Always interesting to compare notes with another high-mileage EV owner.

Thanks so much for all the extra insight! Really good to hear from someone who's put similar mileage on their EV. I'll definitely ask about the full cooling system check when I take it in, that's a smart suggestion. It's actually reassuring to know your Corsa-e is still going strong after the repair. I've booked an appointment for next Tuesday morning, so I'll just keep the longer trips to a minimum until then. Really appreciate all your help and tips, it's made me feel a lot more confident about getting this sorted. I'll update the thread once I know what they find. Thanks again!
