Mokka-e Brake Warning Light Mystery: Owners Share Tips

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Having issues with my 2021 Mokka-e. The brake warning light is constantly on in the dashboard. Think it might be worn brake pads but want to be sure before taking it to the shop. Has anyone dealt with this problem? How did your mechanic fix it and what was the actual cause? Any input would help, especially from other Mokka owners who've faced similar issues.

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2019 Corsa-e (I've got some experience working with EVs). The brake warning light kept coming on, and like you, I initially thought it was just worn brake pads. Turned out to be a faulty DSC/ABS control unit, pretty rare issue actually. Took it to my regular workshop, and they had to replace the entire unit. Set me back about 1000€, but it fixed the problem completely. Vauxhall makes solid EVs (got to test the Mokka-e too), but these things can happen. Before I share more details, could you tell me if you're experiencing any other symptoms? Like unusual brake pedal feel or strange noises? Also, how many miles/km have you put on your Mokka-e? This info would help me give you more specific advice based on my experience.

Thanks for the input! I've got 250276 KM on the clock, and my last service was just 2 months ago. No weird noises or pedal feel, just that annoying warning light that won't go away. I was hoping it wouldn't be something as expensive as the control unit you mentioned, but I guess that's a possibility too. The car's been running fine otherwise, but obviously don't want to take any chances with the brakes. Your experience with the Corsa-e issue is really helpful, might have my mechanic check the control unit along with the brake pads when I take it in.

Hey again! Thanks for sharing those details about your Mokka-e. You know, after hearing about your mileage and symptoms, I'm actually leaning away from my initial control unit theory. My Corsa-e had that weird pedal feel when the DSC/ABS unit went bad, which you're not experiencing. In your case, with 250K km and no other symptoms, I'm thinking it might be something simpler. When my Corsa-e hit around 200K km, I had a similar warning light situation, and it turned out to be just a brake fluid level sensor acting up. Cost me only about 150€ to fix, way better than the control unit nightmare I had before! Have you checked your brake fluid level recently? Even if it was serviced 2 months ago, might be worth a quick look. Also, at that mileage, even if the pads were changed during service, the brake fluid itself might need a flush. These EVs can be sensitive about their brake fluid quality. Let me know what you find out when you get it checked. Always curious to hear how these things turn out, especially with fellow Vauxhall EV owners!

Really appreciate the follow-up and detailed insight! You're actually making a lot of sense about the brake fluid, I haven't specifically checked that since the service. Now that you mention it, I remember the mechanic saying something about checking fluid levels during the next visit, but I didn't think much of it at the time. Honestly, your suggestion about the brake fluid level sensor sounds way more likely (and thankfully cheaper!) than the control unit issue, especially since everything else is working normally. I'll definitely check the fluid level myself tomorrow and get it to the shop next week to have them take a proper look. Thanks for helping me narrow down the possible causes, you've saved me a lot of worry about potentially major repairs! I'll update you once I get it sorted out.
