Jerking on acceleration

Hi everyone, having trouble with my 2022 Vauxhall Mokka diesel. Engine warning light is on, and I'm dealing with power loss, rough idling, and stalling issues. Car sometimes jerks during acceleration and occasionally won't start. I suspect it might be the camshaft sensor, but I'd like to hear from anyone who's had similar symptoms. Has anyone encountered this and got it fixed? What did your workshop diagnose and how did they resolve it? Thanks in advance for any insights!

Hi there! I had almost identical issues with my 2020 Vauxhall Crossland diesel last year, same symptoms you're describing. After dealing with similar problems, I took it to my trusted workshop, and yep, it was the camshaft sensor playing up. The fix wasn't cheap, cost me about 695€, but it solved all those annoying problems (rough idling, power loss, everything). Can you share which engine variant your Mokka has and how many miles it's done? Also, is your check engine light constantly on, or does it flicker? Just want to make sure it's the same issue before you spend money on repairs. My Crossland runs perfectly now, but I'd recommend getting it checked ASAP, these sensor issues can sometimes cause more damage if left too long. Hope this helps! Let me know if you need more details.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine's showing similar symptoms, and yeah, the check engine light stays constantly on. My Mokka's got the 1.5L diesel engine with 189921 KM on the clock, and had its last service about 3 months ago. The flickering you mentioned, that's interesting, mine doesn't do that. Your repair cost seems pretty steep, but I guess it's worth it if it fixes everything. I'll probably take it to the dealer tomorrow since it's still giving me grief. Did you notice any weird fuel consumption changes when you had this problem?

Hey again! (As the Crossland owner from before) Yeah, from what you're describing with your Mokka, it sounds even more similar to what I dealt with. My Crossland's got the same 1.5L diesel engine, actually. And yes, now that you mention fuel consumption, I definitely noticed it was drinking more diesel when the sensor was acting up! Forgot to mention that earlier. I was getting maybe 15-20% worse fuel economy before the fix. About the light not flickering on yours, that's actually probably better. Mine was flickering because the sensor was intermittently failing before it went completely. Yours being constantly on might mean it's just straight-up failed, which is usually cleaner to diagnose and fix. And yeah, I know that repair cost was a bit eye-watering. But honestly, the peace of mind was worth it. Plus, the car's been running like a dream since then, no more of that annoying jerking during acceleration or those heart-stopping moments when it wouldn't start. Let me know what the dealer says! Fingers crossed it's just the sensor and nothing more serious. These engines are pretty solid usually, so hopefully it'll be straightforward like mine was.

Thanks so much for all that detailed info! It's really helpful to hear your Crossland had such similar issues, and yeah, now that you mention it, I've definitely noticed my fuel consumption has gone up too. The constant engine light versus your flickering one is an interesting difference, makes sense what you said about it being a complete failure rather than intermittent. I've booked it in at the dealer for tomorrow morning. Not looking forward to the potential cost (your €695 repair bill is making me wince a bit!), but you're right, better to get it sorted before it causes any bigger problems. And honestly, I'd pay that just to get rid of those horrible jerking movements and starting issues. Really appreciate you sharing your experience. I'll update once I hear back from the dealer about what they find. Hoping it's as straightforward as yours was!
