MKL, power loss and uneven engine running - VW Scirocco 2012

Check engine light on

Stalling while idling

Loss of engine power

Unsteady engine

Jerking on acceleration

Car won't start

Hello everyone, my VW Scirocco, built in 2012 with a gasoline engine, has been acting up lately. The check engine light is on, the power is down and the engine is running rough. Recently it didn't even want to start. It jerks when accelerating and sometimes just stops when idling. Do you think it could be the camshaft sensor? Has anyone ever had the same problems and can give me a few tips on what was done in the workshop? I would be pleased to hear your experiences and suggestions for solutions.

Hello, I had something similar with my VW Golf, built in 2010. I have less experience with cars, so please excuse me if I don't get all the technical details right here. It turned out that the sensor wheel on the camshafts was defective. The master mechanic at my garage replaced it and since then my VW has been running smoothly again. The whole thing cost me 695 euros, which was more than I expected. If you need more details, please let me know the exact information about your car (engine details, mileage, etc.). Then I can help you better. Hope this helps you for now.

Thanks for your reply. My Scirocco has now done 65211 km, the last service was recently. Your experience sounds helpful, but I'll keep in mind that it could also be more expensive for me at the garage. Thanks for the info and I'll keep you posted when I know more.

No problem, I'm glad I could help! Yes, it's possible that it could cost you more. It mainly depends on what exactly is faulty and how much effort the repair requires. But fingers crossed that it won't be that expensive. After your visit to the workshop, please report on what was ultimately done and how much it cost. I would find that very interesting. Good luck and hopefully your Scirocco will soon be fit again!
