Check engine light on

Hi everyone, my 2008 Mitsubishi Pajero diesel is giving me some trouble. The check engine light is on, and I'm experiencing power loss along with rough idling and jerky acceleration. I suspect it might be related to the boost pressure control, but I'd like to hear from others who've faced similar issues. Has anyone dealt with this problem before? What was the actual cause and how did your mechanic fix it? Any insights would be really helpful. Thanks!

Hey there! I had almost the same issue with my 2010 Mitsubishi Pajero diesel last year. The symptoms were identical, check engine light, power loss, and that annoying jerky feeling when accelerating. Took it to my regular workshop, and they found it was the wastegate valve linkage that needed adjustment. Cost me around 240€ to fix, but it's been running smoothly since then. My mechanic mentioned these symptoms are pretty common in Mitsubishi diesels from that era. I also have a friend with a Montero who faced similar issues. Could you share if you've had any other symptoms or checked any diagnostic codes? Also, what's your mileage? This info would help me give you more specific advice based on my experience. Feel free to ask any questions!

Thanks for your input! My mileage is currently at 76936 KM, and I had my last service about 3 months ago. I haven't noticed any other symptoms besides what I mentioned, but I haven't checked the diagnostic codes yet. Your wastegate valve suggestion sounds promising, the symptoms do match up pretty well. Did your mechanic mention how long the repair typically takes? I'm trying to figure out if I need to arrange alternative transport for work. Also, did you notice any smoke from the exhaust before getting it fixed? Thanks again for the help!

Hey again! Yeah, I totally remember dealing with this on my Pajero. For the repair time, it took my mechanic about 3-4 hours to fix the wastegate valve issue. But honestly, I'd plan for a full day just to be safe. These things can sometimes take longer if they find anything else while they're in there. Interesting that your mileage is only 76K, mine was around 125K when I had the problem. And no, I didn't notice any smoke from the exhaust either, which actually helped rule out some other potential issues like injector problems. Just a heads up from my experience, while you're getting it checked, might be worth having them look at the turbo hoses too. When my mechanic was fixing the wastegate, he noticed one of my hoses was starting to crack. Saved me from another potential problem down the road. Also, my Pajero's been running like a dream for the past year since the fix. If it is the same issue, you should notice a huge difference right away. The jerky acceleration was the first thing that disappeared for me. Let me know how it goes when you get it checked out! Always happy to help a fellow Mitsubishi owner.

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's really helpful to know about the repair timeframe, I'll definitely arrange to work from home that day just to be safe. And thanks for the tip about the turbo hoses too, I'll make sure to mention that to my mechanic when I take it in. It's actually quite reassuring to hear that your Pajero has been running well since the fix. I've already called my local workshop and booked it in for next Tuesday morning. They seemed pretty familiar with the issue when I described the symptoms, so fingers crossed it'll be sorted soon! Thanks again for all your help, it's been great getting advice from someone who's dealt with the same problem. I'll definitely update you once it's fixed!
