Thanks a lot for sharing this, it's really helpful to know I'm not alone with this issue! I'm pretty sure we're dealing with the same problem here. I'm definitely going to get it checked out soon before it causes any engine damage. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? And has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other issues pop up?
Hey again! Yes, actually everything has been running perfectly since I got it fixed! The total bill came to 480€ for the electric fan control unit replacement, including parts and labor. I know it wasn't cheap, but honestly, it was worth every penny, my Lancer's been running like a dream since then. The AC blows nice and cold, and I haven't had a single overheating issue since. The mechanic explained that these control units can fail over time, and when they do, they have to be replaced completely, there's no way around it. But once it's fixed, it usually stays fixed, which has been true in my case. It's been about 8 months now, and I haven't had any related problems pop up. Just make sure you get it done soon, you definitely don't want to risk engine damage from overheating. Trust me, that would be way more expensive to fix! Let me know how it goes when you get it sorted!
Just wanted to update everyone, I finally got my car fixed! Took it to a mechanic who specializes in Mitsubishis and, sure enough, it was the fan control unit. The whole experience was actually much better than I expected. Got there early morning, and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. The total came to about 495€, which was a bit more than I wanted to spend, but at least now I have peace of mind. The mechanic was really professional and even showed me the old part to explain what went wrong. Been driving it for a few days now, and what a difference! The AC is blasting cold air again, and the temperature gauge stays exactly where it should. Such a relief not having to constantly watch that temperature needle anymore! Thanks again for all the advice, especially about getting it done quickly. You were right, definitely not something to put off. Really appreciate everyone's help on this one!
Hey there, I had a similar issue with my 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer last summer. The symptoms were exactly the same, warm air from AC and engine overheating. Turned out the electric fan control unit was shot, and it wasn't activating the cooling fan when needed. Took it to my mechanic, and they confirmed the fan wasn't kicking in at the right temperature. They tested the fan itself, which was fine, but the control unit was definitely defective. Had to replace the entire control module. It was a pretty straightforward fix once they diagnosed it correctly, but it's not something you want to ignore since it can lead to serious engine damage from overheating. The job took about 2-3 hours at the shop. Been running perfect since then, no more overheating issues and the AC is ice cold again. This isn't just a comfort issue, it's definitely something you want to get fixed asap to protect your engine. Hope this helps!
