Thanks for the detailed reply! My Grandis just hit 50049 KM and had its latest service last month. I actually hear a faint clicking noise when pressing the tailgate button, but nothing else happens. The warning light just stays on. The mechanic at my regular shop is on vacation right now, so I'm trying to figure out if this is something I need to get fixed ASAP or if it can wait a bit. Has anyone else had this clicking sound before the complete failure?
Hey again! Thanks for those extra details about your Grandis. You know, that clicking sound you mentioned actually rings a bell, my Outlander did exactly the same thing before the cable completely gave up. In my case, I initially thought I could wait it out, but I ended up getting it fixed pretty quickly because I use the tailgate a lot. The clicking noise in my car lasted about a week before it stopped working altogether. From my experience, when you start hearing that click, it's basically the system trying but failing to engage properly. Since your car's just been serviced last month, it's a bit unlucky timing! But honestly, while it's annoying, it's not a super urgent safety issue, I drove mine for about two weeks before getting it fixed. You can still manually open and close the tailgate, right? That's what I did while waiting for my repair. Just a heads up though, if your Grandis is anything like my Outlander, leaving it too long might end up causing more wear on other connected parts. Would it be worth maybe checking if there's another mechanic who could take a look? The repair itself only took about an hour on my car. What do you think about trying another workshop, or would you rather wait for your regular mechanic to get back?
Thanks so much for sharing your experience! Yeah, I can still operate the tailgate manually, which is a relief. After hearing about your similar experience with the clicking sound, I think I'll try to get it checked out sooner rather than later. I actually just called another workshop that a recommended, and they can take a look at it next Tuesday. You're right about not wanting to risk any additional wear and tear, might as well get it sorted while it's still a relatively simple fix. Really appreciate all your insights about your Outlander situation, it's definitely helped me make up my mind about not waiting too long. I'll update the thread once I know what the actual issue is. Thanks again!
Hey there! I had a pretty similar issue with my 2005 Mitsubishi Outlander (I'd say I have some experience working on cars, mainly basic maintenance stuff). The symptoms sound exactly like what I experienced, mine also had a warning light and the tailgate just wouldn't budge. Turned out it was indeed a faulty cable that was causing all the trouble. Took it to my regular mechanic at AutoTech, and they found the cable was completely shot. The fix wasn't too complicated, they replaced the defective cable, and it cost me around 95 Euro. Been working perfectly since then! Quick question, does your tailgate make any noise at all when you try to operate it? Also, which engine variant do you have? This might help me give you more specific advice based on my experience.
