Mitsubishi eK's Bouncy Ride: Height Control System Issues?

Excessive Bouncing

|

Uneven Ride Height

Hey everyone, I have a 2003 Mitsubishi eK that's giving me trouble with suspension. The car is sitting unevenly and bounces excessively while driving. I suspect there might be an issue with the height control system, but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms on their eK? I'd really appreciate if you could share what the problem turned out to be and how your mechanic fixed it. Thanks!

Hey! I actually had a similar issue with my 2005 Mitsubishi Colt last year. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I experienced. Turned out it was a defective cable connection on one of the height sensors. My trusted mechanic found this during inspection, cost me around 155€ to fix (parts + labor). The repair involved replacing the wiring harness for the sensor, and it solved the bouncing problem completely. But before jumping to conclusions, How many miles/km on your eK? Did this start suddenly or gradually? Any recent work done on the suspension? This would help me give you more specific advice based on my experience!

Thanks for the detailed response! My eK is at 121174 KM and had its last service about two months ago. The issue actually started gradually over the past few weeks, I first noticed it on bumpy roads, but now it's pretty obvious even on smooth surfaces. No recent suspension work done, which is why I'm a bit worried. Your experience with the height sensor sounds similar to what I'm dealing with. Did you notice any warning lights on the dash before getting it fixed?

Hey again! Thanks for the follow-up. You know, that mileage is pretty similar to when my Colt started acting up (mine was around 125,000 km). And nope, surprisingly I didn't get any warning lights on the dash before the issue was diagnosed, which actually made it more confusing at first! In my case, the bouncing also got worse gradually, just like yours. Started on rough roads and then became noticeable everywhere. Since your symptoms are developing in the same way, I'm even more convinced it could be that sensor issue I mentioned. One thing I forgot to mention in my first response, before taking it to the mechanic, I tried cleaning the sensor connections myself (they're usually located near the wheel wells). Didn't solve my problem, but might be worth a look if you're handy with cars. Just be careful not to damage anything! Have you noticed if the bouncing is worse on one particular side? With my Colt, the right rear was definitely the worst, which helped the mechanic pinpoint the faulty sensor pretty quickly. Let me know what you find, I'm curious if it turns out to be the same issue!

Thanks so much for all this helpful information! Actually, now that you mention it, the right rear of my car does seem to bounce more than the other corners. It's really interesting how similar our situations are, same gradual progression and even similar mileage! I'll definitely check those sensor connections myself first (carefully!), but I think I'll book it in with my mechanic next week just to be safe. Better to catch these things early before they cause any bigger problems. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's made me feel a lot more confident about what might be going on with my eK. I'll update you once I get it checked out! Thanks again for all your help!
