Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Losing Power? Expert Help Needed

Check engine light on

|

Car won't start

Loss of engine power

Poor fuel economy

|

Longer cold start time

Jerking on acceleration

Hi everyone, having trouble with my 2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Hybrid (148k km) and need some advice. Car's acting up with power loss, jerking during acceleration, and taking forever to start when cold. Check engine light is also on, and fuel consumption has gone through the roof. Local mechanic wasn't great last time, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone experienced similar issues? Pretty sure it's related to the smooth running control system. Any recommendations for reliable mechanics who know their way around Mitsubishi hybrids? Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I actually dealt with very similar symptoms on my 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV last winter. Turned out my intake channels were heavily contaminated, causing those exact issues, power loss, rough acceleration, and hard starts. The smooth running control system was definitely affected. Took it to a certified Mitsubishi dealer because it needed specialized diagnostic equipment. They had to do a thorough cleaning of the intake system and reset several control modules. It was definitely a serious issue that needed immediate attention to prevent long-term engine damage. Ended up requiring a full day's work, but it completely resolved all those symptoms. The fuel economy went back to normal, and the jerking disappeared entirely. Would strongly recommend finding a certified Mitsubishi dealer for this one, they'll have the right tools and expertise for hybrid systems. These symptoms aren't something you want to ignore. Just my experience with it, hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. I'm relieved to hear it was fixable. Do you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? And has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other quirks pop up?

Hey again! Happy to update you! Yes, the repair cost me 425€ at the certified Mitsubishi dealer, and I can honestly say it was worth every penny. Since they cleaned out those gunked-up intake channels and fixed the smooth running control issue, my Outlander's been running like a dream! No quirks or problems whatsoever in the months since the repair. The car starts right up even on cold mornings, acceleration is butter-smooth again, and my fuel economy is back to where it should be. What a relief! I know it might seem a bit pricey, but trust me, getting it sorted at a proper Mitsubishi dealer is the way to go. They really knew their stuff with the hybrid system. Just one full day of work and my car was good as new. Let me know if you get yours fixed. Would be interested to hear if you had the same underlying issue!

Hey, thanks so much for all the help! Just wanted to update you on what happened with my Eclipse Cross. Finally took it to the Mitsubishi dealer yesterday, you were absolutely right! They found similar issues with the intake system and some funky readings from the hybrid control modules. Cost me about 480€, bit more than yours but still totally worth it. The whole process took about 6 hours, but wow, what a difference! Car's running like new again, no more jerking, starts up instantly, and the fuel consumption's back to normal. Such a relief to have it sorted properly. Honestly, I feel kind of silly for hesitating to go to the dealer. Should've done it sooner instead of worrying about the cost. The mechanics there really knew their stuff and even showed me what was causing the problems. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction, you saved me from potentially making things worse at my old mechanic's!

Let our mechanics help you!
