Mitsubishi 380 Key Fob & Light Issues, Help Needed!

Dim or flickering lights

|

Vehicle cannot be unlocked or locked

Hey everyone, having trouble with my '05 Mitsubishi 380 (98k km) and need some advice. The keyless entry system seems to be acting up, can't lock or unlock the car properly, and I've noticed the lights are getting weaker and flickering. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? What was the actual problem and where did you get it fixed? Thanks in advance!

I had a similar issue with my 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer (petrol) last winter. Started with intermittent key fob problems, then the door locks began acting weird. Took it to my local Mitsubishi specialist after my usual mechanic couldn't figure it out. Turned out the cable connection between the door handle and the electronic lock mechanism was damaged, some corrosion had built up, plus there was a loose connection. The mechanic had to partially disassemble the door panel to access and replace the wiring harness. Also found some water had gotten in there over time, which didn't help. It wasn't a major repair, but it needed proper diagnostic equipment to pinpoint the exact issue. The repair itself took about 2 hours. Been working perfectly since then, no more lock issues or flickering lights. My advice would be to get it checked at a shop that specializes in Mitsubishi electrics, as general mechanics sometimes miss these specific electronic issues.

Thanks for sharing that, it sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing! I ended up having almost the same problem with my 380 just last year. Really good to know it was fixable. Do you remember roughly how much you paid for the repair? Also, just curious, have you had any other electrical gremlins pop up since getting it fixed?

Hey! Since you asked, the repair cost me 170€ to fix that faulty cable connection to the door handle electronics. Really worth every cent though, as the keyless entry has been working like a charm since then. I've had zero electrical issues pop up after getting it sorted at the Mitsubishi specialist. You know how these things can drive you crazy when they're not working right, but once fixed properly, you forget they were ever a problem! My Lancer's been running sweet as, and I'm actually glad I went to a proper specialist rather than trying to save a few bucks at a general mechanic. Sometimes you just need someone who knows these cars inside out. Sounds like you've got the same gremlin I had, hope you get it sorted without too much hassle. Let me know how it goes if you end up getting it fixed!

Thanks for all the info! I actually took your advice and got it fixed at the Mitsubishi specialist last week. The whole thing cost me about $200, which wasn't as bad as I'd feared. The mechanic found exactly what you mentioned, corroded wiring and a loose connection in the door. They were super efficient, had my car back within a couple of hours. The guy even showed me the old wiring and explained everything they did. Such a different experience from my last mechanic! The keyless entry is working perfectly now, and those annoying flickering lights have stopped too. Really glad I asked here first instead of just going to any unusual shop. Feels good to have it sorted properly. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction, saved me a lot of headaches!

Let our mechanics help you!
