Mitsubishi 380's Electrical Nightmare Needs Expert Fix

General electric malfunction

|

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey there! Having some trouble with my '08 Mitsubishi 380 (123k km) and could use some advice. My dashboard's lighting up like a Christmas tree with electrical warnings, and there's something weird going on with the speedometer display. The A/C system's also throwing error messages. Had a pretty sketchy experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit cautious about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar electrical issues in their Mitsubishi 380? What was the actual problem and where did you get it fixed? Thanks in advance!

Hey! I had a similar situation with my 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer last year. The electrical warnings and dashboard issues turned out to be related to a faulty cold shut-off valve that was messing with multiple systems. The valve wasn't properly regulating the coolant flow, which affected the ECU readings and caused those unusual warning lights. Had it fixed at an authorized Mitsubishi service center, didn't want to risk it with independent shops since electrical issues can be tricky to diagnose. They had to replace the valve and reset all the computer systems. It was definitely a serious issue that needed immediate attention because it could have led to engine overheating and more electrical problems down the line. The whole repair took about two days, including diagnostic time. My advice would be to head straight to a Mitsubishi dealer, they've got the right diagnostic tools and expertise for these specific electrical problems.

Thanks for sharing that! Glad you got it sorted. Did you remember roughly how much the whole thing set you back? And has everything been running smoothly since, or did you run into any other issues? My 380's been giving me grief and I'm trying to figure out if I should brace myself for a big bill at the dealer.

Hey again! After seeing your question about the costs, you're in luck because I caught a break with my Lancer! The repair didn't cost me anything since the cold shut-off valve issue was actually covered under an extended warranty I didn't even know I had. Talk about a pleasant surprise! And I've got some good news, since getting it fixed at the Mitsubishi dealer, everything's been running like a dream. Those annoying A/C error messages completely disappeared, and all the electrical gremlins seem to have been exorcised. The dashboard's back to normal, no more Christmas light show! I totally get your concern about potential costs, I was sweating it too before finding out about the warranty coverage. Your 380 might be different, but I'd definitely recommend at least getting it checked at the dealer. Sometimes these things turn out to be simpler (and cheaper) than we fear. Plus, they might spot something that could save you from bigger problems down the road. Just curious, have you noticed any patterns with when these issues pop up? Like during certain weather conditions or after driving for a while?

Thanks for all that detailed info! I actually bit the bullet and took it to the Mitsubishi dealer you mentioned. Turns out my issue was different, had a failing alternator that was causing all those electrical problems. The whole thing cost me around $850, including parts and labor. Not exactly cheap, but at least it wasn't as bad as I feared! They sorted it out in about a day and a half. Since the repair, my dashboard's back to normal, no more light show! The A/C's working perfectly too. You were right about going to the dealer, their diagnostic equipment picked up the problem straight away. Much better than my last experience with that dodgy mechanic who kept giving me the runaround. Really appreciate your help pointing me in the right direction. Sometimes you just need that push to make the right call. Car's running like new now, so I guess it was worth every penny!
