Mirage Cruise Control Failure: Fix Guide

Fault stored

|

Cruise control without function

Hey everyone, my 2016 Mitsubishi Mirage is having issues with the cruise control system. It's completely stopped working and there's a stored fault code. Has anyone dealt with this problem before? I'd like to know what the repair process was like and what parts needed replacement. Any tips on what to expect at the workshop would be great too.

I have some experience working with cars, and I dealt with a similar issue on my 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer. The symptoms were exactly the same, cruise control stopped working completely. Took it to my regular workshop, and they found a faulty cable connection to one of the cruise control sensors. The repair was pretty straightforward, they replaced the wiring harness and tested the system. Cost me around 155€, and it's been working perfectly since then. What's your mileage on the Mirage? Also, are you getting any warning lights on the dash? This info would help me give you more specific advice about what to expect.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My mileage is at 68718 KM, and no, I'm not getting any warning lights on the dash. Just the cruise control that's completely dead. It's good to know that it might be just a wiring issue, that sounds less scary than what I was imagining! Was the repair time long in your case? I'm trying to figure out if I need to arrange for alternative transport when I take it to the workshop.

Hey again! Good to hear back from you. On my Lancer, the repair actually only took about 2-3 hours total. I dropped it off in the morning and picked it up after lunch. The most time-consuming part was actually diagnosing the exact location of the wiring issue, once they found it, the fix was pretty quick. Since you're having similar symptoms to what I experienced (no warning lights, just a dead cruise control), and your mileage isn't crazy high, I'm even more convinced it's probably the same kind of wiring problem. These Mitsubishis tend to have similar issues. In my case, I just hung out at a nearby coffee shop while they worked on it. You probably won't need alternative transport unless they're super backed up with other jobs. But it's always good to ask the workshop when you make the appointment, they can give you a better estimate based on their schedule. One thing I forgot to mention earlier, after they fixed mine, they recommended checking the connections every year or so during regular maintenance to prevent it from happening again. I've been doing that and haven't had any issues since. Might be worth keeping in mind for the future!

Oh, that's really reassuring! Thanks so much for all the detailed info. A 2-3 hour repair doesn't sound bad at all, I was worried it might take days. I'll definitely call the workshop tomorrow and schedule an appointment. The coffee shop idea sounds perfect, actually. There's a nice one right around the corner from my regular mechanic. That's also a great tip about the annual connection check. I'll make sure to add that to my maintenance routine. You've really helped put my mind at ease about this whole situation. Fingers crossed it's just a similar wiring issue like yours was, and I'll be back to using cruise control on my highway commutes soon!
